The biggest problem with is of course the lack of full HD video quality on many servers. But I found this French server and they seem to offer no limits on youtube video quality!

https://invidious.fdn.fr

It is my new favourite bookmarked Invidious site. If video quality has also been your reason to avoid Invidious, I recommend this site now.

I still use YouTube a bit for discovery and subscriptions, but less and less for viewing. The transition is slow, but happening.

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@amici choose dash as quality in the settings (some instances might have that disabled)

-TheFrenchGhosty

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@amici You don't need to make an account! Everything is available in the "preferences" page (little gear icon at the top-right of the page).

When you don't have an account, the preferences are stored locally in a cookie.

lacks one extremely simple basic feature: parameter-stripping.

You can paste a YouTube-url into the search bar and get the video you're after, which is great, but if the YT-link contains any extra parameters (and YT often adds lots of that stuff for various reasons, plus websites like facebook add their own when you click on their links) then Invidious doesn't understand it's a YT-link.

This is a feature that could likely be implemented in 1 added / modified line of code

@invidious

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@amici This is work in progress! Please be patient, this feature is expected to be merged soon:

dennis, to random

@invidious hey! it seems most instances of invidious aren't configured properly for CORS - ive stumbled into a lot of issues while trying to make an alternative frontend which uses API's of public instances.

it seems that an "important" header is missing: Access-Control-Allow-Headers or Access-Control-Allow-Methods and I'm not even sure if the public instances even care about preflight requests

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@dennis Hello!

Except for the following endpoints, Invidious doesn't support CORS:

/videoplayback
/videoplayback/*
/api/manifest/dash/id/videoplayback
/api/manifest/dash/id/videoplayback/*

-SamantazFox

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@dennis PS: I realized that for all API routes (/api/v1/*) we have a middleware that adds the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header, no matter which kind of request is done.

Though, we don't have any OPTIONS route registered for those.

Hi everyone!

I'm glad to announce that the bug preventing the videos from loading has been mostly fixed (we're working on a more permanent fix).

We also have tagged releases now, read the full changelog here:

https://github.com/iv-org/invidious/releases/tag/v2.20240427

-SamantazFox

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@chebra In general, we observe the official clients (youtube website, Android/iOS apps, etc) and we try to behave the same.

If you search on github, very talented people have reverse engineered Youtube android apps, some of their proprietary protocols, and more!

https://github.com/gsuberland/UMP_Format
https://github.com/zerodytrash/YouTube-Internal-Clients

We also get to echange with people at FreeTube, NewPipe, Piped, CloudTube, etc... It's already a shared effort!

Hello,

TL;DR: *.invidious.io down temporarily

During our move to a new uptime checker, a change was made to the invidious.io DNS...

This worked... except our provider's ( @njalla ) name servers fucked up and haven't pushed anything (other than a deletion of the existing entries).... meaning all our DNS just disappeared from the internet (except for the rare DNS that cache)...

I already opened a support ticket with them...

Don't worry though... we're still alive!

I just learned that Invidious can import all manner of data from , such as your channel subscriptions.

Go to Google Takeout and just export the subscriptions and then import into

Giving it a try -- takeout takes some time to export.

@invidious

Thank you so much for solving last week's problems!

Invidious is so important and I'm willing to donate.

But I'm not experienced with crypto currencies.

Can I donate via Liberapay or SEPA/bank transfer?

Greets

invidious,
@invidious@social.tchncs.de avatar

@dani Hello!

Unfortunately, no, we don't have other payment options, for tax reasons (we'd need to be registered as a non-profit for that). Invidious team members don't have personal LiberaPay accounts either.

I understand that crypto is not for everyone, so instead I'd recommend to donate to another decentralization and/or privacy focused non-profit of your choice.

One we really like is @Framasoft, the developers of @peertube .

Haven't heard of PeerTube yet?

It's a great piece of software to host your own videos!
Plus, they don't break 3rd-party clients, especially on a Saturday. Unlike some other plaftorm(s).

Go check out them out at @peertube

Or start searching for content with https://sepiasearch.org/

Hello!

A new version of invidious is available!

Huge thanks to LuanRT from the youtube.js project. He's the one who found a fix!

Please wait a few minutes for the container releases to be available through Quay (especially the arm64 one).
