@chopaganda@teleskiguy A friend of mine just sent a care package to another friend’s son in college including a test kit and Narcan… after a friend of his ended up in the ER from fentanyl poisoning from smoking black market flower. He’s in a state with zero tolerance including for medical. So messed up and unnecessary. #LegalizeIt
@DenisCOVIDinfoguy@auscovid19@ai6yr NGL this election is the first time I’ve ever seriously considered moving overseas. Beyond merely frightening if that lunatic gets back into the White House.
A close friend pinged me this AM to report that Mayor McCheese waltzed across the stage last night at a Billy String show. Apparently, there is some precedent for McCheese appearances, I found one from a Leftover Salmon show in 2021. What is heaven's name is going on here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUytT0SrWXc
@mrcompletely@LostReflector@InstituteJerry I was good friends with the original liberator of the Mayor. He was bound for the Boulder County dump when she grabbed him out of a pile of debris at a defunct Mickey D’s. The Mayor toured regularly with the Salmon for several years, though he was regularly abducted. Most memorably, some Oregon Country Fair folks held him until a ransom was paid. Fifty pounds of feed corn and “proof of Dick Hippy.”
@mrcompletely@LostReflector@InstituteJerry He was pretty beat up but received a facelift about a decade ago thanks to Scramble Campbell. Not sure when he got the lipstick, though. Andy Frasco had gotten hold of him the last I’d heard, but apparently he’s back in Nashville, where Vince currently resides.
@ai6yr We have friends with a second home in Guerneville. Their place (like a lot of buildings there) has a bottom floor designed to withstand flooding. People move valuables to higher floors and the water passes underneath the building largely without incident.
@ai6yr Also important to note that where their place is built the river has to be forty feet (!) high to flood. In the summertime the river is at like 5 feet so that’s a lot of water!
@davemark The only bots I’ve seen are the intentional ones like earthquake, traffic, and weather bots. As far as organized bot campaigns of misinformation and harassment, I haven’t personally seen any. Like, at all. Occasionally some troll pops their head in but they get blocked pretty quickly.
The most ironic thing about Chappelle these days is that while he revels in “punching down,” he comes off in interviews as being incredibly thin-skinned about any criticism of him. I don’t think that’s surprising or unusual for someone in his position, but it does bum me out as a former fan of his. Contrast that with Carlin (to whom people love to compare Chappelle). What made Carlin great was that he didn’t put himself on a pedestal where he couldn’t be taken down a peg. https://mastodon.social/@theconversationau/111768120181411970
Carlin’s comedy always came down, essentially, to observations on the human condition, with a strong sense of the absurdity of it all. And while he definitely made jokes that probably wouldn’t be considered politically correct these days, he also had an acknowledgment of that tension in his work. It’s hard to imagine that he would be as stuck in a rut as Chappelle seems these days.
Ran into an old friend a few weeks back with whom I’d grown apart over the years. He’s become a full Elon stan and wow, yeah, that’s definitely a whole thing. Awkward conversation eventually devolved predictably into my calling him an edgelord and his angrily getting up and declaring, “why would I ever want to hang out with this motherfucker again?” Good times.
Not even sure why I’m bringing it up except that Mastodon feels like my confessional sometimes. Anyway, he also told me I should read Twitter “to know what the other side is saying,” like that’s somehow the key to progress. I’m like, how about you listen to an opinion about why Elon sucks and why you’re a doofus for stanning him?
