The "Recall can't record DRMed video content" thing is because DRMed video content is entirely invisible to the OS. The OS passes the encrypted content to your GPU and tells it where to draw it, and the GPU decrypts it and displays it there. It's not a policy decision on the Recall side, it's just how computers work.

@mjg59 yeah it completely bypasses DXGI's compositing stuff, which results in some pretty bizarre behaviour if you try to watch HDCP DRM content on a multi-monitor multi-GPU setup, because it'll go to fallback mode (reduced quality and resolution) depending on which monitor you display it on versus which GPU is doing the video decode.

@mw1cgg I fell asleep the second my head hit the pillow, but I must admit that the generator noise was a major help at EMF due to my tinnitus. silence gets pretty loud for me and the constant low drone was helpful.

🏠Have you ever moved house?

Tear down is kind of like that, except it’s not all going to one place, some is time dependent, the truck’s turned up too early, and now it’s started raining. Also everything is muddy, can only be transported with a particular combo of people and vehicles, or has a visiting member of the local wildlife. HQ has a pigeon.

If you have any positive vibes for the tear down crew, leave them here and we’ll make sure they’re passed on this evening when they get a chance to read them.

I had a blast DJ'ing at #emfcamp on Sunday night. Went very well considering it was my first time doing it in person instead of on the internet.

@jtruk caught this absolutely incredible slow motion footage during it, which might be my favourite EMF shot of all time. Charles, Rob, and Dimitri really nailed the effect timings. phenomenal.

Looking back on #emfcamp, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but as far as I could see there were no LLM or GenAI demos, and I didn't have any conversations about AI/ML with anyone.
Actually, I take it back, there was a really cool video GenAI in the Null Sector. But still...

@mkarliner I had one conversation about it and it was with a blind guy who was talking about the secondary technologies spawned out of it becoming life changing for people living with vision impairment, which was very cool and the one side of the explosion in ML tech I'm super hyped about.

I am home from EMF. My feet are bruised and blistered, my ankle is still bleeding, I twisted my knee, my hips hurt, I'm sunburned, my lip is split, my hands are covered in bruises and scratches, and it was 100% worth it.

My only regrets from #emfcamp are:

  1. Not realising that when people warned me Null Sector is "loud" that they meant FUCKING LOUD. Loud in a good way, unless you're attempting to sleep at 1AM … I thought our tent was far enough away… no… it was not. Also nobody warned me Stage B would also be... Rather Loud. 😂

So next time we shall know better, and set up camp… on the moon.

  1. Not possessing a time machine so I can go do it all again a few times to catch all the things I missed and didn't do.

@yvan on the Friday night someone snuck in and adjusted all the amps to 11, which is why it was so immensely loud that night. things in the DJ/control booth were rattling off the walls. the amps were adjusted back to normal for Sat/Sun but definitely still spicy!

fun coincidence - on my way home I drove past the truck carrying all of EMF's hired stage pieces. I was looking at it thinking "huh that looks exactly like the stuff we were just using" then noticed one of the crates said "EMF FESTIVALS" on it.
