Hey and tomorrow at 10;30 AM there’s a cargo bike show and tell behind the Hopewell Avenue Public School off of Bank Street close by the Mayfair theater. If your cargo bike curious, wanna get rid of one of your cars or cars all together, it’s a prime chance to test ride a bike. There are zero shops in like Curbside or London Bike Cafe that have a range of models for you to test before you buy

I’m really proud of my restraint commenting on #ottawa Reddit but my fucking god these “I’m a cyclist and all you other cyclists are breaking the law and therefore all the mad drivers are justified in wanting to kill us” posts are going to be the end of me. Goddamn these in particular make me so ragey. Yes, fine, be kind to people also not driving but I do not care what you do to make yourself safer. Period. Fuck the rules made for people driving #onpoli #ottbike #biketooter

Reminder that the city of #ottawa likes to unilaterally decide when summer starts and ends. Has Britannia Beach been packed for weeks already? Did a 9-yr old just die? Yes. Will this change the city’s approach to funding how the city operates in an era where it’s much warmer for longer? No probably not. The speakers mentioning no lifeguards are on duty are like speed signs. Meh, that’s enough #ontario #onpoli

It's obvious that Sutcliffe's hobby isn't swimming, eh?

@Nezchan well it’s only “recreation” after all

Biked by Britannia Beach today with 2 fire trucks, 5 cop cars and 3 paramedic vehicles all lights and sirens blaring. Apparently a neighbourhood kid is in critical condition after presumably being found unresponsive in the water. Fuck I hate this. It’s so common and yet so easy to avoid and I’ll stake my claim that the beach is one area where phones should just be banned. It takes no time for shit like this to happen with aspirated water in the lungs #ottawa #drowning #kids

grivettcarnac,
@grivettcarnac@mstdn.social avatar

This isn’t a shit on other parents / holier than thou from me. I’ve sat at the beach. I’ve watched others for a long time at the beach. And I’ve used my phone while sitting at the beach, though our kid doesn’t swim there. 30 secs isn’t that long. What’s 45 seconds right? It’s like driving and using a cellphone. I’ve done it and now I don’t. Ever. Driving or at a beach with the kid. Shit happens so fast #ottawa #kids #drowning

@WTL ya that part is the worse. I’ve never had to resuscitate anyone (knock on wood) but I’ve assisted people in the water and the silence is eery

Nothing radicalized me more than living without a car. I firmly believe it’s a literal and metaphorical vehicle for the future. It opens you up to your community. It can make you feel joy when there are many days right now where it’s conflicting to feel joy.

I think more people should become radicalized. Life is a lot different, a lot better, change is scary and every fucking minute of it is worth it

Some closed NCC pathways on the south east side of Bells Corners on a morning just trying to make new connections west of us and south of us.

From Bells Corners and the Trans Canada Trail going east, I’ve never spent much time. All the roads down there scare me to be honest. I just dont trust people and not knowing where decent shoulders are makes the exploration slow. Yes Google street view etc but my capacity for planning only goes so far 🤷‍♂️

We live in a decently managed condo building with a health reserve fund and something I think about a LOT now is what kind of special assessment are we going to get hit with when the parking garage needs to be torn down and rebuilt? Our building is perfectly located to be well served by transit and not need an exact replacement for a parking garage built in what was Nepean in the 70s. There’s lots of these types of buildings in our area

My fav new weekend activity is getting the 1 1/2 hr bus ride to CHEO on a Sunday only to have to wait for hours and hours, esp on nice outside Sundays. It’s great, totally fine, love this so much

I like how Smyth Rd, serving the only kids hospital in the city is served by one bus route… let’s see if we can get home before 3;30 🙃 #ottawa

PSA: (and a question). #ottawa and #ontario pulled two ticks off the kid after a hike in Gatineau park. And you NEED to check all of the little ones, especially parts of genitalia you can’t just visibly check. Both of these dots are ticks but unsure what kind. Does anyone know if there is a drop off location to get these tested? Lymes disease is shit and the risk increases a LOT after 24-36 hrs attached #kids #ticks

@grivettcarnac

Long pants and long sleeve shirts are de rigueur for any hike in ‘wild-ish’ areas of eastern Ontario and western Quebec now because of ticks and Lyme disease.

Recommendation is to tuck one’s pant leg into socks. That is a level of dorkiness I am not ready to descend to.

BTW, the prophylactic antibiotic for Lyme is available without prescription in Quebec pharmacies. It’s a bit nasty.

Oh, and there is a vaccine for Lyme. It is not manufactured because of anti-vaxxers!

This is rather different than most vaccines.

(And also why a second infection is worse than the first.)

The kid turns 5 whole ass years old tomorrow. Thinking back to 2019, it feels like a different universe back then.

This image forever makes me laugh as a friend told me it made the daily media briefing at Parks Canada 😂

Hey #ottawa OC Transpo announced this morning that you can now pay for #publictransit with an Interac Debit Card. This is in addition to being able to pay with a credit card or mobile pay on any bus or LRT station #ontario #onpoli

David Cochrane interviewing Andrew Layton about Pierre Polievere so dude can shill is book which seems like fanboy fiction it’s unfortunately not surprising. Like, my guy, the fact that 98% of PP’s beliefs are still the same as when he was in college isn’t a bonafide that most people would be proud of. I mean, if you have paid any attention to who he is, it’s not surprising #cdnpoli #cbc

Apparently I’ll be getting the wondrous $7.85 from this LifeLabs “settlement”… I’m giddy that I’ll be able to buy a round trip pass on OC Transpo with this 🙃 curious what else I can buy with $7.86. Maybe we all pool our big earnings off of stolen data for purchasing power?
