I’ve been led to believe there may be some #train enthusiasts on Mastodon. This morning I spent a while walking around looking at and photographing old train equipment and this absolute unit was the star of the show. I would love to hear that whistle blow! #steamengine

My 8yo: What’s 2 times pi?

Me: Well pi is three-and-a-bit, so 2 times pi would be six-and-a-bit.

Him: Six and two bits.

Me: Yes. Six and a bigger bit.

Him: Can you think of a number in the pi times table that’s a whole number?

So, what are we going to call actual generalised machine-based intelligence now that we've lost the term "AI" to stochastic parrotry?

inti, to wildlife

This is a game camera photo taken in northwestern #NewMexico as part of a Wildlands Network study of the effect of solar development on #wildlife movement in the #FourCorners. Biologists know that #badgers and #coyotes sometimes hunt together, but photos capturing the phenomenon are very rare.

The project is funded by the US Department of Energy. My company, Resi, is conducting drone surveys for the project.

    I gasped when I saw this petroglyph--because I found this glyph in Northern Nevada! When I saw it, I'm like, "A flute player? No way!" Flute players, also known as the hunchback flute player or Kokopelli, are only known in the Southwest around the Four Corners area. It appears to be ancient and not recent. Anyone have any thoughts? (First photo is digitally enhance. Second photo is unenhanced.)

    #Movie: Tideland (2005). Little girl with unhinged imagination is left alone in a decrepit prairie farmhouse with only her dead dad and the insane taxidermist neighbours for company. This is Gilliam making an effort to be trippier, more grotesque, grimier and weirder than Gilliam. Grade: Good!

    @gratefulwolf@archaeo.social avatar

    @mrundkvist played Tideland for a group of friends… one walked out almost immediately (ex-junkie), none liked it …i think it's grand (arguably best to that date - don quixote supersedes it, though munchausen remains a personal favourite)
