Page 2 of smol drawing practice: owls that live around here. My smol owls are based on drawings by Joris de Raedt in the book on the right. Those full-page drawings are so detailed, I couldn't fit all the detail in the smaller version. I found reducing the detail and just trying to reproduce the general vibe of all the different feathers quite challenging!

Yesterday I did move a frame almost full of capped brood, honey, pollen, and bees into the 'empty' hive.

This morning there were guard bees doing their thing and really checking over any bee that showed up, there was robbing yesterday from the feeder dripping and running out the entrance but nothing serious. I reduced the entrance to make guarding easier and noticed some pollen coming in which was surprising.

A video with 30 seconds of footage with 2 sped up clips to reduce it to 15 seconds total. It shows a bee with pollen landing on a screw head, then eventually making it's way into the hive via the small reduced entrance opening. The pollen is probably from blackberries or dewberries.

Planted the cabbages and put marigolds and some thumbelina zinnias in 3 of the raised beds. The 4th is melons so vines on the surface need all the space.

Saw the sun today! When the sun comes out, the sun worshippers come out too!

Finally planted the Hardy Chicago Fig today. It was quart sized and I put it in a gallon pot when I got it a month ago and put it under the grow lights. It was getting root bound when I planted it today. Fast grower I guess, it's my first fig.

I planted the flower tower today and set a post for some hanging pots.

10 clusters of Lobelia Pendula, Cascade blend, and 10 clusters of Alyssum Lobularia Maritima, Royal Carpet. They were started in 2 inch square pots 3 weeks ago. It took exactly 2 cu. ft of potting mix to fill the flower tower. (forgot hashtag, repost)

When I boarded, I was told something was wrong with my cabin so they moved me into a suite. It's pretty ridiculous! The bathroom is three times the size of the regular one. There's a walk-in closet! They gave me fresh flowers! The robes are WAY fluffier!

Egg watch has started.

12 eggs started under two broody hens. 1 hen wasn't reliable so her 4 got tossed.

The other stayed on the eggs but when I candled the other day there were only 4 maybes and 4 nothings.

There's a rooster shooting blanks or missing the target.

The hen was off the eggs this evening and they were pretty cold. Candled and they looked good, no movement. Put her back on them, checked tonight and saw some life. Now safe in the incubator. Day 19.
