teamtuck, to microsoft

Welp, #microsoft #teams is down for a lot of people right now. Guess who won't be bothered the rest of the day?

😊

fbievan,

@teamtuck thank god I submitted the thing that I had to put into teams way earlier

selea, to random

Any others that is getting utter bullshit answers more frequently?
The "AI hype" is really destroying basic information searching, and it will absolutely make people dumber because it is just lying to people

fbievan,

@selea haven't noticed any difference on searx. Although I haven't searched much lately tbh.

nitrogenez, to random

fuck it's 2024 in a week. jesus.

fbievan,

@nitrogenez yeah, sad man

fbievan, to GTA6

My 50th time watching the gta 6 trailer...

It looks good... Will be watching out for it.

#gta6

https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=QdBZY2fkU-0

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn yeah, that skyline looks amazing... How big and dense that city is. Plus the water physics near the start.

Aghhhh

Might just have to buy a console to buy it on release (and then rebuy it on PC when they release the game on PC a year later).

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn how detailed the characters are look really nice and the cars look good.

Rockstar supposedly has a good history of making trailers.

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn

Ive watched the trailer like 500 times. I am really hopeful for it...

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn

I honestly have no idea how rockstar puts so much into minute and 30 trailer.

The fact that rockstar was so confident to put that much stuff in the game is insane.

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn

Gta V runs fine through wine completely fine now... Even gta online works.

I have it on steam and it works great.

Has a gold rating on protondb: https://www.protondb.com/app/271590
And is rated 'playable' on the steam deck verified thingy

gta VI will likely only going to be released on consoles on release. Then after then they will port it over to PC (like how rockstar has done in past)

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn

So with how quickly a lot of new releases of games on PC I would expect it to work on PC in a year after released on PC so probably 2026 on Linux.

fbievan, to random

NGL I have no idea what I'm actually going to work as.

Ehh, deal with that later maybe

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn

Hmm, k. I'll definitely consider that.

selea, to random

The bigger blogs about linux and devops is filled with articles/guides that do not work.

Someone thought that it was a good idea to let bot write the articles because the writes was to lazy figuring out how shit works.

I've recently found reliability in blogspot blogs where the author does not care about looks, money (ADs), or if there is any visitors at all to the site.
Those are usually the best guides/tutorials

fbievan,

@selea yeah agree, I should probably write some how-to-guides and also credit the blog articles I used to help me along.

StampedingLonghorn, to random

The ads on YouTube and Pluto.TV are getting to be unbearable.

I used to be the person who was understanding and consent to a couple of ads to support the work that I enjoy consuming. Now I just can't stand it anymore and question the viability of video streaming business model.

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn yeah like 6 ads back to back is fucking insane.

I just can't use the web without an adblocker. I think the only service who I still consent to ads on is twitch, because their ads are not that long and they don't feel as invasive

Linux_Is_Best, to microsoft

Microsoft, quietly, has published a guide on how to download and install Linux.

No... Seriously... It is not a joke...

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linux/install

The article was published September 29, 2023 (9 days ago).

The guide provides every option available, too. Starting with using their Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), to using a Virtual Machine, and even on "Bare Metal" alongside Windows.

That's right, Microsoft now tells you how to dual-boot Linux. 🤯

fbievan,

@kkarhan @Linux_Is_Best

To be fair it is a 'windows subsystem' which includes linux

But their naming is completely stupid

Neither name really makes sense.

fbievan,

@deepthaw @kkarhan @Linux_Is_Best

The main thing really is that: WSL is completely proprietary.

Plus its still inside of windows which means that it can't be fully trusted.

Plus alot of people are still scared because of 'Embrace, Extend, extinguish' which would fit into WSL lol

fbievan,

@kkarhan @deepthaw @Linux_Is_Best @ubuntu

Honestly HyperV is still impressive to me.

StampedingLonghorn, to random

Activating Comcast's internet gateway requires the Xfinity app.

Ummm… so I need internet to get on the internet. This is going to be a bit tricky, and I hope not time sensitive to give me time to walk up and down the hill during the process.

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn

Yeah... That's not new AFAIK, but there may or may not be some changes coming into the future

fbievan,

@StampedingLonghorn there are some other ways like contacting customer support.

Or on-site activation supposedly still works

Linux_Is_Best, to linux

I feel like I am fighting Linux, and I'm not in the mood to fight my computer.

If there was a current hackintosh I could easily use, today, I'd switch to MacOS at the moment.

I'll be damned if I go back to Windows... That's not happening. But with that said, I'm not in the mood to fight with my computer, today.

#Linux #MacOS #Windows #Hackintosh

fbievan,

@Linux_Is_Best but fr why doesn't surfshark not have a flatpak

fbievan,

@Linux_Is_Best

So I assume unpacking the deb package and trying to run it was a no go?

fbievan,

@Linux_Is_Best it looks ehhh possible but I really wish there were a different way

fbievan,

@Linux_Is_Best i do see an old project that did this (convert the deb package to rpm), I'll see what I can do when I am able to work on stuff

fbievan,

@tyil @dwarf

Actually that is a good point:

You're paying a subscription, why doesn't it work?

fbievan,

@tyil @dwarf

VPN's really are only good at pretending you're somewhere you're not (that's why I rent a server that basically serves as a proxy for my real server)
