    Just reading that Malcolm Mclaren's Duck Rock album is getting a 40th anniversary This must be the 1st reissue since initial release.Grreat album. The proto Art of Noise with Trevor Horn, Mclaren's complete BS. Buffalo Girls. The world famous supreme team. Oh my youth.

    I'm mostly a streaming music listener these days. Once in a blue moon I get the old media out. Long time no vinyl play. My original turntable from back in the day too. It's doing better than me considering its age. Only one belt change, a few stylus & cartridge swaps & some wood glue applied to correct an unglued belt idler wheel (Thankyou oo-tube).

    Things are coming on in the polytunnel. We did lose the main door a while back (somebody yanked it off its hinges but it was getting weak anyway) so looking at whether we can make a slide across door replacement. #polytunnel #gardening

    So here’s my thought on the Mastodon/Bluesky divide.

    Try every network so you know it’s out there. Know that there are some people who want certain things out of their social media. Know that those may not be the things you want.

    I don’t particularly love image-driven social media, so I mostly stay off Instagram. I value openness, so I found a home here.

    There are some nice features on Mastodon. There are some nice features on Bluesky. They may not be the things you, personally, want.

    @ernie some very well observed points. Not really anything I'd disagree with there. I think ActivityPup and open standards are the more important thing long term. Mastodon has a good chance of a niche that's very different than being a direct Twitter replacement.

    I notice quite the outbreak of surround sound enabled videos on oo-tube. Seems a bit late in the day for all that 5.1, 7.1 palava. Thought it was all Atmos or spatial audio now. All my life, somewhere, somebody was convinced that surround sound was the next big thing. Christ even #TheArchers went out in #Quadraphonic for the 3 people that could recieve it back in 1977 (presumably wiped). #SurroundSound #audio #youtube

    @u0421793 Oooh lovely. yes Atmos at least seems to make a dent. Apple Music supports Atmos & spacial (Tidal too). I don't get how people are uploading 4.0 and 5.1 stuuf on oo-tube as I thought that was enabled only for their film rental service. I do love surround music. It just open things up... not that I can hear it properly these days.

    The older I get the more I am bemused about things people latch onto for a sense of identity than I am angry. The upcoming Coronation being an example (we must be the only Monarchy left that observes this bling-fest. Even the European Monarchies don't do coronations anymore).
    Of course I am reminded of the Monty Python & The Holy Grail scene... (I find both sides here amusing even though I am an old grizzled anarcho-syndicalist)... #Coronation #Monarchy #UK

    Saw some goths yesterday. All white faced and black lipstick. Ages since I've seen any goths. Out in daylight too.
    Saw a young guy in a music shop that looked like he'd just walked out of a student band from 1983.

    The thing that intrigues me about #Mastodon & the #fediverse is how open & modular it all can be. From the many clients, the hub approach (hubzilla, Friendica) , WordPress, Activity Pub etc. Of course that is precisely the kind of moving target that also puts a broader user base off but I much more feel like I'm in a good place (a safer space) than other places I've tried before.
