Just saw the convo about the mention thing. At the moment, it's a known issue. Something we'll have to fix eventually. Mastodon seems to use tag field with keys like type: mention, username: x to signify who to actually notify. /kbin and Mbin do seem to parse the body text instead, so we'll probably want to fix it to be specific and not rely on the flaky body text parsing

Excited for the Cassette Beasts update next week? I've been checking to see if it'd go on sale for a few weeks/months now but I'm guessing it isn't likely to with a major update on the way. Not sure if I should pick it up or wait for the next sale, how are you finding it? Been wanting to play a creature collector recently after watching so much Persona 3 but haven't wanted to go back to my digimon/persona playthroughs

I just finished setting up Linux Mint for an old buddy of mine on his old dog of a laptop, rendering it useful once again! (i.imgur.com)

Edit 2: to everyone suggesting an SDD: i know. Look, if this guy had enough $$$ for an SSD, he could buy a used lappy less than half the age of this one that has an ssd and 2-3x the memory....

Any reason MATE over Xcfe? Just curious if the performance is close or MATE is better at things, not trying to question your decisions. I have a >9 year old PC at this point and installed Cinnamon on it but was finding it a bit laggy. I tried out the other editions but am sticking with LMDE for now, but sort of feel like I don't really need nice animations, I just need more CPU for faster compile times, haha

Sorry for missing this, seems mention notifications aren't working for me at the moment (hyphens have always been problems but because /kbin allowed them we're stuck with them, even though almost all AP platforms like mastodon and lemmy don't allow them) (we had fixed it four months ago but... I guess something happened since then). Not sure I know much about media uploads but can at least look into it / talk to one of the other team members that usually knows a lot about this stuff.

My favorite was always Fear Not This Night. Unique, I know

Pretty cool you were able to eventually get it. I remember a coworker of mine got the collector's edition solely for the Rytlock statue, but kindly let me have the art pieces / frame. I did borrow the soundtrack to listen to, but gave that back.

@e-five@kbin.run avatar

That's very surprising to me as it's a two year old game at this point. Looking it up, I guess there were three years between 1 and 2. Wonder if they're working on a 3 at this point

I got all the EW relics fully upgraded for all classes, and finally got all the first rank of tank mounts for all tanks. There's still the cooler mounts for tanks but, not sure I want to keep that grind going

AST somehow looks good to me despite being a black robe just like literally all other AST glam. Also really like SAM/GNB. SGE however... oof

Not a scientist so couldn't quite tell from the article if this would work for its use case; but all of the prepared / cooked food I see at my grocery store is packed in plastic containers. They all have shelf life of that day / maybe a couple of days (this is like a buffet + packed / prepared meals, not sure what exactly to describe it as). I always thought it would be great if that could be less wasteful, it'd definitely make me feel more likely to buy it instead of all being in single use plastic containers.

e-five,
@e-five@kbin.run avatar

Definitely was finding it hard to describe what I mean, my store has a bakery/butchery in it and I think they prepare things in-house, like bake bread/muffins and then throw them in plastic bags, make batches of mac and cheese and throw it in plastic tubs, etc. It's possible they ship some stuff in and that wouldn't work, but I just meant for things that were literally like oven to shelves stuffed into plastic bags, maybe it'd be nice if it could be used there.

@hitstun just wanted to check with you as I think I misunderstood your request for a CSS var for color scheme. Do you mean you'd like something like class=theme--scheme-[light/dark] on the body class? For instance when the user selects tokyo night, solarized dark, dark, kbin it's theme--scheme-dark and when light or solarized light, theme--scheme-light to save you from having to type out selectors for each theme?

And I did investigate the magazine description federation issues. Think I have an idea, I'll make an issue for it and it will probably be the next thing I work on after my current open PRs.

e-five,
@e-five@kbin.run avatar

@hitstun I was planning on implementing this this weekend but realized before I started that I'd hit a snag. When the theme is theme--default or theme--solarized, I don't actually know if the color scheme is light or dark, it all depends on the user's system settings (if they prefer light or dark). I haven't been able to think of a way around that, since CSS isn't really a logic/programming language I can't do things based off of it. The most I could think of is setting like theme--scheme-unknown and then updating it via javascript after page load. That has the original problem when it was JS based though, in that it wouldn't be set until the page fully loaded due to the JS having defer on it. But maybe just having the scheme on all other settings is good enough? I don't have metrics but I bet tons of users are just theme--default though, since it's the, well obviously, default state.

@hitstun Benti ended up doing the mag description fix. Haven't completely been sure that it fixes things outgoing but at least incoming from lemmy looks much better. That should be out next release. In regards to not being able to add transparency because values are hex and not rgb, is that something color-mix() could do? Found that while googling to try to understand the issue.

We're also trying to investigate and solve the issues he's been running into

e-five,

It's one of my big projects, in progress in this PR. I'm really happy with where I got it to recently. I'm not sure if it'll make it into 1.6.0, but it's what I'm currently working on.

e-five,
@e-five@kbin.run avatar

We have a couple people in the lemmy support matrix and have been keeping a close eye on things. So far I have not witnessed or heard it happening for any Mbin instance. The code has diverged a lot at this point, so it's hard for me to say whether it's something that could affect us. But, obviously the consequences of this are being felt severely by instance owners, so like I said, we're trying to watch out for anything, and keeping track of metrics / queues.

@e-five@kbin.run avatar

To clarify, Mbin reports do make it to lemmy as of this PR, but lemmy moderator actions taken, such as removing comments, does not then make it back to Mbin. Not exactly the most clear situation to be in right now, but it's been iterative process to get all the systems correctly hooked up to the fediverse.

My post didn't make it to blahaj or fedia 🤔 that's not good... the other one after did, though

@e-five@kbin.run avatar

If you can give me any more details, let me know. Looking at your instance, I only see two communities from lemmy.today, and one looks like it was deleted, so should only be their announcements one. Is the one you're having trouble interacting with the potentially deleted one?

Or do you mean users rather than communities? If you're trying to report threads or comments, are they potentially already removed from blahaj and then it won't let you interact with them?

To sum up some things about cross instance interaction as of this date:

  • reports do propagate to lemmy
  • moderator actions do not propagate back
  • direct messages don't work cross instance

Am i missing out on anything other than porn by disabling NSFW on lemmy ?

Like am i missing out on big boy talk, gore, news etc that are adult ? Lemmy should seriously get a second filter like one that filters porn and the other that filters the rest if that is the case . Anyway what do you think ? Should news etc. be put behind nsfw ? I know i am straying far off the primary question but i am just...

This may come close to what OP is looking for as it includes reasons for the tags such as gore or spoiler

On this day 25 years ago, Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones became the first to fly non-stop around the world in a balloon. They suffered multiple mechanical failures through their flight, resulting in a icy cold trip that was definitely not fun but historic for #balloons nonetheless.

By the way, how do you like my new two-column layout? Since we're very visual-focused, it makes sense to present Fedia's thumbnails at their full 380x380 size. I still need to make it look better on small displays like phones, and I'm thinking I'll allow more columns on wider displays. It's too bad my CSS doesn't federate to any other instances and isn't used when browsing by tag.

e-five,
@e-five@kbin.run avatar

@hitstun that's certainly impressive to be able to do that with CSS layered on top of the site. Perhaps there's some stuff we can do to make it easier for you (like options for grid layouts). I've been working on using horizontal space more in places like shown in the images under the expand section this comment. Perhaps similar could be done for the articles themselves
