KathyReid, to stackoverflow
@KathyReid@aus.social avatar

I just issued a data deletion request to #StackOverflow to erase all of the associations between my name and the questions, answers and comments I have on the platform.

One of the key ways in which #RAG works to supplement #LLMs is based on proven associations. Higher ranked Stack Overflow members' answers will carry more weight in any #LLM that is produced.

By asking for my name to be disassociated from the textual data, it removes a semantic relationship that is helpful for determining which tokens of text to use in an #LLM.

If you sell out your user base without consultation, expect a backlash.

dtbell91,

@KathyReid wait, so the only request that can be made is to anonymise your content but not to delete it?

  • dtbell91,

@decryption we had someone come to service our split systems recently. He fixed our Kelvinators, but looked across the room at our Mitsubishi Electric split system and said "about 10 years old you say? If it's not giving you any trouble now it probably won't for another 10 years, I'm not going to touch it"

  • dtbell91,

@decryption Battery World take spicy pillows. Although I'm not entirely convinced the guy there didn't just put it in the waste bin at the counter after I left.

I'm a bit disappointed to be missing #EverythingOpen this year, but I just can't justify attending a conference of that size without it having a strong health & safety policy. (While I haven't signed the @phpledge, I am aligned with its expectations in most cases. And I really don't want to catch #COVID again!)
It'll be the first #LinuxConfAU-shaped conference I've missed since I started attending in 2012. 😢

    dtbell91,

@mattcen I'm not attending for different reasons but I feel similarly disappointed and like I'm missing out on seeing my LCA/LA/EO fam 😢

Leftover birthday cake is a perfectly acceptable nutritious lunch thank you for asking and no correspondence will be entered into.

    dtbell91,

@KathyReid breakfast. lunch. dinner. morning tea with coffee. afternoon tea with a cuppa.
A leftover birthday cake does not last long enough.

How did I get here from "I'd like to download this ebook from the internet?"
A shiny emoji star for whoever makes the closest guess. I might give some hints if it all seems too hard 🙂

    dtbell91,

@mattcen is the answer ADHD? 🤣😬

Fairly sure this sounds like something I'd do.

Protip: start a record of positive feedback you get at work and add to it whenever someone says something nice about you/your work. Can be as simple as a text file or a folder of screenshots.

Bonus protip: try to give out more positive feedback than you receive. Pay it forward.

You know you've got yourself some excellent friends when not only can you respectfully argue with them over just about anything, complain endlessly about things to them, and have them freely share critical reflection on yourself/the things you're complaining about...

    They also set you homework.

And you know deep down they're right about needing to do it.

Today in ridiculous gendering of products: cookie cutters.
Miss 4 wanted to replace our lost gingerbread man cutter. This is all we could find at Spotlight. There were no "girl" cutters.

Do you think an autistic 4yo can comprehend that she can make girl gingerbread men with a cutter that's clearly styled as/for a boy? Why is it even gendered in the first place?! If you're going to do that at least sell one that's femme presenting as well and we can buy the "set". And then work on breaking the gender norms when we get to decorating them.

Of course we tried our best to tell her that her gingerbread can be whoever she wants and we can decorate them all sorts of different ways. And that it's really only the piece of cardboard that's a boy, the cutter can be anyone. I think we eventually got there and she was happy to get the cutter.

But come on. Can gingerbread cutters just be gingerbread cutters?

I guarantee I'll be confused by next time we make gingerbread and she insists they're all boys because of this. Because I know she'll hold on to the influence of this terrible packaging.

Maybe I should be grateful for all the nicely presented opportunities to challenge the gender norms of our society while building positive memories of making delicious treats. 🍪
