I use Mastodon for public scholarship, because that is one of the main benefits I see to public/open social media. It's how I used Twitter and I've definitely benefited from other people using social media this way.
But in my experience, Mastodon is 'splainy AF, which is exhausting. Just this morning, a gentleman decided I would benefit from an explanation of GIGO, FFS.
So, while I never insist on titles, I'm going to include mine in my display name for a while, to see if that helps.
@emilymbender This is so true! I also found a lot of well actually on Mastodon. not sure ow to address that though. I guess all social media platforms have their personality quirks.
@numbercrow Since I am in the STEM lab at the children's museum it is whomever shows up but typically baby through 12 years. Parents just help any littles if this may be over their head.
@Outwriterandom Okay thanks! Just let me know when you launch your business. I do have one editor but as I try to become more productive may need more than one at a time looking at my story drafts.
So when #MuskyTwitter was purchased I joined Mastodon, Post, Spill, Spoutible and BlueSky. Post is going belly up on 5/31. I left Spill because of members policing the way I engage on social media. If I wanted to be critiqued and criticized in my downtime I could go read my course evaluations. Now spam complaints on Mastodon?? I may need to just delete everything except the dark place. #BlackSTEM#BlackFedi#BlackTwitter#BlackMastodon#BlackFediverse#NoireSTEMinist
