Suppose you cut Wolverine in half, top to bottom. What happens:

A) Half dies, other half lives
B) Both regenerate into new Wolverine
C) Half dies, other half lives, but the regenerated Wolverine has problems related to having two right or two left hemphispheres
D) Both regenerate, but with the problem described in C.

@ZachWeinersmith B, but both have balance issues due to only half of their skeleton being weighed down by a layer of adamantium. Followed by a 24-issue run of Deadpool attempting to do the same thing to himself as a buddy comedy.

Watching a guy restore a machine gun.

As one does.

@hotdogsladies Some of these restoration channels can be remarkably satisfying.

Steve Albini could make a band sound very big.

@hotdogsladies I'm still grateful for you pointing me (well, not me personally, but "us") at his version of Cheap Trick's "In Color".

@hotdogsladies To which I might add this:

Or literally any song recorded by the Blues Brothers.

(Or would, modulo the appearing-in-the-episode thing.)

Ca. mid-1990s:

Those three weird glyphs on the cover of "Ghost in the Machine" are LED 'drawings' that represent the members of the band. Squinting helps, because…

(L-R) Andy Summers, Sting, Stewart Copeland.

I've always revered this record, and it took me well over a decade to realize this insanely obvious thing.

I’d love it if you guys gave Michael Penn a listen. He’s really special.

@hotdogsladies I'm positively fascinated/enthralled by your Gentle Introduction playlist framing. Weirdly I've been running down Michael Penn and Ted Leo rabbit holes over the last few weeks myself. Haven't seen yours yet, but this would be my stab at one for Michael Penn:

OK
Small Black Box
Coal
Brave New World
Me Around
Walter Reed
Evenfall

(Also—yes, all the Rockpile.)

Day 12 of was an outstanding tipple from Bushmills, and 's day 12 story of, I suppose, a failed break with the past, comes from Hilma Wolitzer.

The whiskey is Bushmills "Causeway Collection" 2000 Port Cask Finish. This is the best thing I've ever tasted with from Bushmills (and at over £275 a bottle, it had better be pretty great.)

@bitprophet This is the Drinks by the Dram "Premium Edition" calendar:

https://drinksbythedram.com/products/the-premium-whisky-advent-calendar

(The short story calendar is the one from Hingston & Olsen publishing. I don't think that's what you were asking about, but, for completeness' sake…)

djwtwo,
@djwtwo@mastodon.social avatar

@bitprophet I think this is the third time I've gotten this particular calendar. There's a higher repeat count this year, but still mostly new. I stick with the whisky calendars, but I've tried a few different ones both from this company and Secret Spirits.

I recently saw Redditors telling others that it's weird and controlling to share location w your partner. My husband and I have done it for the past 7 years and here are the main reasons why:

  1. how long til I get to smooch you
  2. that's pretty much it
djwtwo,
@djwtwo@mastodon.social avatar

@rebeccawatson I keep offering to share my location with my spouse, but apparently she'd rather call to check on my ETA for some reason. She has a knack for calling in the window between turning onto our street and pressing the garage door opener.

"When will you be home?"
"Look out the front window."

Blog posts from the web of 2009 might as well be written in hieroglyphics .. there will not be a singularity, but the rate of change is definitely speeding up. https://scobleizer.blog/2009/11/02/the-chat-roomforum-problem-an-apology-to-technosailor/

@codinghorror I just love digging through revision control to see just who submitted whatever piece of ridiculousness I'm investigating to discover it was… me. Younger, "cleverer", me, 15 years ago.
