We got the final results for the #Hockey polls I put up a few days ago...and it's tight. Looks like there's no real split opinion on how either of the series go.

For what it's worth, I didn't get to vote in my own poll (thanks Mastodon?) but I'd give given the edge to both the Stars and the Panthers.

I think Edmonton's goaltending is their Achilles heel, and I think the Panthers are just too deep to be worried by the Rangers.

Still, I've been wrong before.

If a company is demanding that regulatory bodies need to 'look hard at the role of the CMA and the regulatory structure' then that regulatory body is probably doing a decent job.

All this talk of how this will effect Microsofts investment in the UK going forward, or how this is a win for the EU; that it means death for tech investment in the UK in a post-Brexit world is sh*t. We're watching a toddler who's been told 'no' throw their toys out of the pram

One thing I'm a bit worried about with regards to #Lemmy is that a lot of the larger communities seem to be on .world.

Part of what makes Lemmy special is that it isn't a centralised space. Users and communities would be better off joining a smaller instance, building that one up. After all, you can still federate over with the larger ones to access those communities.

I'm sorry. I understand why I need to make this change and how it helps the planet. I understand that I need to be better in my safeguarding the planet for future generations. And I get that my children are looking at an uncertain future because of climate change....

.....but I can't with these paper straws. They make my skin crawl and they feel funny in my mouth. Bring back the plastic!

Hey. Just wanted to say I'm safe and okay and that I really appreciate everyone reaching out last night.

I've always struggled with my mental health, but since having kids it's got progressively worse (lack of freedom to combat my demons probably to blame on that one), but I've never actually done anything with regards to self harm, and I don't think I ever would.

Trying to get my 5 year old to sit down and focus on writing 30+ Christmas cards is going as well as expected. A job that would take me 10-15 minutes has taken her an hour, oh and she's done about 7 of them. The toddler is running around causing absolute mayhem at the same time and they're both full of colds.

When your childfree friends question why your so stressed all the time, this is why. We're not even doing anything particularly difficult...it's a 'chilled' Sunday morning but holy fuck

Videogames are probably priced too low..that being said you're gonna have a real hard time getting people to buy brand new games for £85 a pop

I imagine there's a line where it goes from 'ill throw £x at that on day one' to 'yeah imma wait for a sale'. Maybe you'll get a few thousand people to buy day one at full RRP, but I imagine you're gonna see an awful lot more people wait and wait and wait

So. Maybe we need to revaluate what we expect from #videogames in 2023. Maybe AAA needs to die off?

Okay Nerds. I've got a hankering for a #Metroidvania ....but I've never really played one before (it's a blind spot).

I own Hollow Knight already, and I'm tempted to go back to that but I'm looking for some other recommendations.

What would you recommend to a total Metroidvania noob?

I've got my eye on the following: Ori and the Blind Forest, Axiom Verge and Rogue Legacy 2 (which I know is a bit different).

Not sure if this is something I should be worrying about but my 5 year old has turned into the devil incarnate over the last month.

The second she doesn't get her own way she starts screaming at us, and if we continue to parent her she comes out literally swinging; just like when she was a toddler.

I did my 'gentle parent' thing and we went and sat in her room together. Shejust threw things at me before I left the room and left her to it.

I can hear her destroying her room.

Not that I'm counting the days or anything but in exactly one year my 2 year old will be eligible for the 30 funded hours of childcare.

Like his big sister I'm hoping to send him to the local primary schools attached Nursery. She loved it. Hopefully he will too. Fingers crossed.

365 days. I can almost see the freedom.

Going forward I think I'm going to have to ditch my #Videogame podcasts that don't feature at least one host with a kid.

Listening to twenty-somethings that have almost unlimited time and basically no responsibilities is just too unrepresentative of my own experience with life that I really struggle to relate or even enjoy their output.

I've really been enjoying the @crossplayblog podcast called #SpawnPoint, but I refuse to believe that's it for Gaming Parents?

Tonight task: Set up Xcloud on my Steamdeck.

Shouldn't be too difficult, although it is more difficult than it should be.

For a company that wants it's platforms available on other devices the fact that I can't install something on Desktop mode to just have this work seems shortsighted.

All this news about the Epic Game Store failing to turn a profit makes me wonder how many people are buying the Epic exclusive, playing it and then buying the game again when it hits a certain prise threshold on Steam.

It's like loss-leaders in supermarkets, only instead of buying Loo roll and then also buying the grocery shop, players are getting the toilet paper and then going to the other place to get their 'big shop'.

One thing that I really enjoyed when this Mastodon instance launched was the sense of community. Over the last twelve months I feel like a bit of that has been lost.

I guess some of that is natural, the instance is much bigger than before and I imagine most people aren't following everyone on that instance, but it's still a bit sad.

I'd argue that the 'Verified' system was already a bit of a mess.

It should mean that the game runs, and runs to a pretty solid level on Deck.

It doesn't mean that at all. It's an absolutely horrible way to work out if your #SteamDeck can play a game and at this point I've stopped using it as a guide. ProtomDB or @steamdeckhq for me.

It's barely 7am and I've already spent two hours parenting before a full ten hour shift at work. In short, it's been rough.

To make it worse. My kids just put on the latest episode of #Bluey.

I am not emotionally or physically able to handle this emotional abuse before work, but alas, here we are. Thoughts and Prayers please. It's gonna get messy. And that's before I even start at work.
