@robb I have had a version of this in drafts for about 3 years 😅

Our beginnings are very similar, imagine it's similar for a lot of folk our age in the UK.

I’ve only just unboxed and setup this Kobo Libra Colour but wow, I love the form factor of this thing!

cutts,
@cutts@social.lol avatar

@maique @andyn mine has frozen a couple of times when playing around with the settings (but not while reading so it's not been a problem).

Don't think I'll ever get completely used to reading with the front light on when in dimly lit places so I wish the display wasn't as dark as it is... But it's the price paid for colours I guess.

My last ebook reader fit perfectly in my back pocket... Until I sat on it 😅

cutts,

@robb having something so destructive aliased to some shorthand is hard core. 😎

The way John Gruber writes about the EU feels insulting at this point.

I’m sensing it as the same kind of rhetoric that was used by Brexiters about 10 years ago — dumbing down the narrative to the point of disregarding some of the most important aspects that have lead to the DMA.

His way of constantly implying that Apple’s anticompetitive practices can be justified because they make for better experiences is often just based on the false assumption that people are dumber than they really are.

cutts,
@cutts@social.lol avatar

@nileane he's always been one of those bloggers I can't stand. Strong opinions, held with an iron grip. In love with his own legend.

He had similar daft rants when. Threads couldn't launch in the EU as well. Something about the EU restricting the choice and freedom of its citizens.

Bit of a hot take here, but I think it’s pretty crappy that Taylor Swift, with all her pull and ‘clout’ won’t / hasn’t come out and endorse Biden, or at the very least denounce Trump in the strongest terms. The only reason not to, as far as I can tell, is to protect her income. Is that unfair?

cutts,
@cutts@social.lol avatar

@andyn I think that's a very simplistic and harsh way of putting it.

I think she'd become a target and a lightning rod for the extremist right... Which at this point seems to be a plurality of the country.

So she would probably risk her career as a whole and her entire lifestyle. Very potentially her physical safety and possibly the attention and ire of politicians that like to investigate people for crimes because they don't like them.

I've been making scrambled eggs since I was a child. I've certainly changed my method over the years, but not once have I considered looking up a recipe for it. Yesterday I decided to actually do that, and produced by far the best scrambled eggs I've ever made. There's probably a larger point to be made here about growth mindsets and staying curious, but man - those were good scrambled eggs.

cutts,
@cutts@social.lol avatar

@ben I imagine they're well overlooked if you've been making them since then. 🤪

Him: (pointing to my laptop) That Rubik’s Cube and DVD player have been in the water and gone mouldy.

Pages CMS looks a lot like what I was planning on making https://pagescms.org

Self-hosting it requires using CloudFlare which is the kind of lock-in I wanted to avoid with mine but it looks like a solid option.

Edit: it may not be tied to CloudFlare, need to read the docs some more

    I'd imagine it skews depending on if iPhone users are the primary responders of the poll or not.

    I don't personally know many people that can afford iPhones or flagship Samsungs or similar. As such, I don't see anyone use the feature day to day.
