collectifission

@collectifission@greennuclear.online

Hi there, I'm posting a lot about nuclear energy, but I can branch out to:

  • Politics: I'm an 'orthodox' marxist. I'll probably use https://socialis.me/@Emil for those posts.
  • Esperantisto.
  • Environment: you know my pro-nuclear stance, but did you know I'm an ecomodernist?
  • Democracy: Sortition is the way to go.
  • Economy: abolish the money economy and replace it by cybernetic communism, using labourtime as our measurement for planning.

Not only has used #nuclear fuel been stored safely for decades, it can be reprocessed into fuel for the future.

Used fuel safely stored could potentially power us for centuries, via fast breeder reactors. No more mining needed, solving the waste problem at the same time.

Vandaag loop ik mee met de #klimaatmars. Ik ben daarin een bescheiden tegengeluid: kernenergie wordt namelijk niet gewenst als oplossing door de organisatie.

And we start the week with Germany at 23x the emissions of France.

Remember this map. In it Poland has been the worst polluter of Europe, at 867 grams of CO2eq for 2022.

Poland is planning to build many nuclear units the next decade. I did a short calculation and if they build the three AP1000 & APR1400 units, their average kWh emissions sharply drops towards 465 grams.

Germany has seen a rising annual average over the last few years and was at 486 grams for 2022 and since closed their last three NPPs.

Six units to bust the myth of the Energiewende forever

Congrats to Aleph Farms for being the 3rd company to receive regulatory approval for #cultivatedmeat

Key things to know:

  • 1st approval in Israel
  • 1st for cultivated beef
  • 1st entirely animal-free process (no serum)

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark 🇩🇰

This week we’ve witnessed an utter unscientific catastrophe in Denmark.

It has come to light that the upcoming hearing on nuclear power in Denmark has been infiltrated by anti-nuclear activists disguised as experts

If you think spent nuclear fuel is a problem, you're either not well informed or you're actively being the problem.

  • Wind developers face supply-chain and financing problems
  • Europe wants to boost clean tech investment under Green Deal

If only the nuclear industry had this kind of unconditional backing. In the EU, nuclear only gets subsidies for decommissioning, go figure.

Recently, the German Federal Audit Office (Bundesrechnungshof) looked at the full costs of the German 🇩🇪 energy transition and sharply criticized the @BMWK:

  • Eliminated environmental assessments
  • Significantly higher costs
  • Problems with security of supply

You should know more about this:

Many of us have long suspected that many so-called "environmental" groups oppose/hate nuclear more than any other energy source, even fossil fuels. Guido Nunez-Mujica, a BTI employee, has done some interesting work (on his own time) which demonstrates this.

Plaatsvervangende schaamte hoor ...

Zucht.

The tragedy of the #nuclear phaseout in Germany in two graphs. Had the Germans remained rational after the Chernobyl and Fukushima incidents and remained building new nuclear at the pace of the first buildout period, it would now be the cleanest grid of all OECD countries.

This tragedy added a lot to climate change and killed millions of Germans due to unnecessary air pollution.

The same graph, but now assuming the linear growth the same as the first period, but extended to today. Low carbon electricity would be at around 100% today, complemented with hydro, solar and wind.

I've been hosting several dozens of users now that all share a passion for nuclear energy. Besides myself, I have no staff and I'm dependent on donations to keep it running (if you fancy some nice stickers, DM me 🤭).

Interesting difference between Germany and France on the spot market for today. France has been lower than average for days now.

Mind that most electricity in France isn't traded on the spot market, but has longterm PPA contracts.

There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country. Below chart, showing energy use by GDP/capita (GDP in purchasing power parity), shows that for society to flourish, we need a lot of energy. I contend that it doesn't matter whether we're talking about capitalism or communism in this case as both societies use energy differently, but still abundantly when they can.

The graph is from Our World in Data and can be found here: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/energy-use-per-person-vs-gdp-per-capita
