One of many leaked privacy and security issues at Google.

@chris ROFL OMG this is crazy, I can't begin to imagine the shitstorm that is happening within Google right now due to this bold ass employee going rogue. It's a reminder to keep Google out of our personal lives by not having an account with them if possible or use their search engine.

@chris Somehow I skimmed over the quoted line the other day, and it's...Not really true, about the first time being alone in the game.

But that's perhaps semantics

Finished X-Men '97 - what an epic finale 🤯 Tolerance is Extinction – Part 3. Best tv show I watched this year. Can't get enough of the Newton Brothers banger tracks - is there a full OST release already? Couldn't find it on Tidal yet.

:vaultboy: Holy moly, a 14GB NextGen Update 9 years after release! Happy to see so much love for the Fallout series 🙏

If you are a new Vault Dweller coming from the tv show - Fallout 4 is chronologically the last game in the series but has the most accessible and modern gameplay. The games don't have to be played in order and can be played on their own, I'd start with :vaultboy:

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@chris The game looks and feels so much better than before this update! I’m tempted to start a brand new save to get the full experience of Fallout 4 with the Next Gen update.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@chris Yeah, I think that's why I wouldn't be averse to starting anew. I don't play with mods unless the game is particularly piss poor with certain mechanics. Fallout 4 to me has some low grade annoying aspects about it. 🤔

It makes me hope that they at least get Fallout 5 right in terms of gameplay and related mechanics. Getting back to Fallout RPG instead of every person First/Third Person Shoot with a Fallout skin.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@chris
I’m up episode 4. No spoilers btw.
It took a bit for it to click with me, but it’s definitely getting there.
My main issue was that when you come at it as a “normal” series it feels off in several ways.
But that was my mistake.
It clearly knows what it is and plays into the games origins and then some, twisted sense of humour all the way.
Really enjoying it now, but I only want to watch one episode a day as it’ll be over way too soon as it is.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@chris
Oh yeah, I'm already planning to go back and watch it again when I'm done as I just know I've missed a ton of little things, now that I'm actively looking for them.

🚴‍♂️ Looking for recommendations for a #tubeless conversion: rims + tyres. The factory rims on the Cube NuRoad Pro FE 2022 are ...not that great. Requirements are:
tyres: 35-40mm for 70% asphalt, cobblestone, 30% gravel, forest tracks, tubeless, easy rolling, good puncture protection
rims: affordable, sturdy, doesn't have to be ultra-light

I'm thinking DT Swiss G540 with Schwalbe G One Allround? Any cons or other recommendations?

@jake4480 This is the first Taylor Swift album I listened to in it's entirety. 31 songs. My wife and our teenager are slightly irritated because I won't shut up about it 😄 I enjoyed the album, there are some excellent songs. 16 bonus tracks is crazy, I'm sure Swifties are very happy today. The effort that went into the release and the various editions with 'handwritten' lyrics letters and all those goodies is a masterclass 👏

@chris ha! I definitely had a couple I dug.. I love the hell outta the single. Kinda wish more were like that, but still. Some awesome synthy stuff. Wife is a BIG Swiftie haha. I think it's gonna grow on her. Folklore did. And she loved Midnights. There's some cool stuff on that one. A lot of my favorites are on 1989.

How to quickly check if your system may be affected by the recent XZ utils supply chain backdoor. Open your terminal, enter:

xz --version

bad: versions 5.6.0 or 5.6.1
ok: 5.4.6.

The malicious code could affect sshd authentification (CVE-2024-3094). Updates and downgrades for SuSE, Fedora, Kali and other distros are available.

Pop!_OS or Debian stable versions are not affected but it never hurts to double-check.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@chris Note that by doing this, you're actually running xz, a binary which the attacker has had under their control for years, and which may include more malware than we currently know about.

It has not yet been analyzed fully. Versions older than 5.6 might have been manipulated, too. We don't know yet.

This is bad advice.

The correct way to check would be to ask your package manager which version is installed.

First impressions of #Synduality Echoes of Ada, closed beta: this is going to be a very niche game. It's a PvEvP Extraction Shooter with a strong focus on PvP. The gameplay loop is simple: get out, gather crystals while other non-union players and some monsters attack you. And you are on a timer. And there is acid rain. If you succeed, you can upgrade your base, weapons and mech. Rinse & repeat.

It's supposed to be thrilling but for me it's rather frustrating, just let me bring back my loot 🙈

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds @chris My friend seems to like them. And a lot of the free games are showdowns. I'm still getting my brain around games like PUBG: Battlegrounds, CRSED, and The Hunt: Showdown...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo If only there were a singleplayer focused The Hunt: Showdown as the atmosphere is second to none, the soundscape is simply amazing.

I would pay a lot of money to have a singleplayer version because The Hunt: Showdown has everything I like except for the PvP aspect.

Forecast for monday night: Solar eruptions are sending a stream of particles towards Earth, creating spectacular auroras in both hemispheres.

The aurora borealis will be potentially visible on Monday night in the US as far south as the midwest. The northern lights could also be visible in northern Britain. In the southern hemisphere, the aurora australis could be visible in southern Australia, from Victoria to Western Australia.

I have no idea if it's any good but I've read Kirkman's complete Invincible Compendium a few years ago and her character was interesting and pretty badass.

Found my iAudio M3 Digital Audio Player from 2004. 20 years old and still working, now look at these features:

  • slimmer than the OG iPod, slightly bigger than a credit card
  • excellent sound
  • 20GB Toshiba 1,8" replaceable harddrive
  • format-agnostic, direct encoding
  • supports lossless FLAC! (see display screenshot) and a ton of formats
  • USB 2.0
  • Line-in INPUT
  • Mic, audio recording
  • Rockbox support

Such a cool device, love the minimalistic design. Next project: replacing the battery.

A silver, metallic device, about the size of a deck of playing cards or slightly bigger than a credit card with 3 round buttons for play, forward, previous - very minimalistic, no display. On the right side: a volume dial, a lock button and a recording button.

@chris woww this is SO great! I had this one, another off brand, and a Zune later that got stolen. Gotta grab another. I never liked iPods, I never got another Apple thing after an iMac in the early 2000s. Hated the iTunes UI and how it organized music. Anyway. Big alternate mp3 players ftw!

@buru5 @chris @UKFilmNerd I guess shoes are the first thing a lot of people see, my wife loves shoes haha - the fashion industry, etc. Coming from a guy like me that used to do Chucks & just usually buys whatever cheap Skechers is in Ross now, it's lost on me. But yeah you also see it with the sneakerheads. But as a kid, yeah you're right. Jordans were it.
