And I have a cover for my forthcoming book! Due out in July from the University of Chicago Press. If you just want an e-copy, though, don't pre-order -- it will be available to download for free,

cepaea,

@richard Thank you -- very kind -- although full disclosure, the Press received money from the University of California, Davis (my university) to publish it open access.

I am angry & upset & will no doubt regret what I'm going to write. But I can't help but think that what this professor posted to Twitter is just a more extreme version of language I have seen throughout academia & the "logical" conclusion to be drawn from it.

Welcome to social media, where if you post a picture of a gorgeous hot pastrami sandwich in a deli, the first response will be someone telling you, wrongly, that your choice of a half-sour pickle was obviously the wrong choice. (Not me, not my sandwich, but seriously.)

cepaea,

@stevesilberman It is not possible for a half sour pickle to be the wrong choice. That person was deeply confused. There are few things in life that are as good as a half sour pickle.

A powerful and moving 5 min. climate action music video, focusing on the Davis/Sacramento area but of course broader as well.

#LifeWithoutTheInternet

Having used the Internet for just a bit less than 40 years... I really don't know what that would mean.

cepaea,

@Huck I remember life w/out cell phones too. I remember that if you got into trouble and weren't near a phone, you were SOL.

There were certainly nice things about being cell-phone-free, I would agree, but I wouldn't list feeling safer among them.

cepaea,

@Huck Yes, I am not happy about the loss of privacy and personal info.

cepaea,

@luckytran So infuriating. Even if this were possible (which it won't be in many times/places) -- how many times do people need to hear that the heat itself is not the only effect we need to be worried about?? How many droughts, floods, extreme storms, coastal inundations, etc., do people need to see?

cepaea,

@dancinyogi @luckytran Yep, I've breathed a lot of those here in California.

Fans of might be interested in a recent playlist put together by the 4 members of the band, with each picking their 10 favorite R.E.M. songs. Michael's are 1-10, Peter's 11-20, Mike's 21-30, & Bill's 31-40.
