while i'm almost impressed by otter.ai's hall of fame level , i'm still outraged that they more than doubled the monthly price for the same services & i now need to find a solid offline non-subscription app. recommendations (besides macwhisper), anyone?

requirements -

  • can edit text of
  • able to instantly get time stamps from any point in the
  • can keep multiple transcripts open at once
  • can search across transcripts

i have been a paid pro customer of otter.ai for 5+ years, the deadcast would not be possible without it, & i am beyond miffed at their account changes.

my "pro" plan previously allowed for 1,200 minutes of transcription per month, which i never used. but now i am limited to 1,200 minutes over 10 files. in a typical month, i upload 40-50 (or more) much shorter files from different sources.

my entire working library of audio is in there, so feeling trapped.

fuck otter. hard.

the recent crackdown on unlicensed bodegas has ushered in a massive overnight vibe shift from over-the-top garish to hilariously anonymous. the next phase in weed bodega aesthetics, already a topic for street art documentarians. (photos by a pal, but expect to see it in my neighborhood soon.)

rode with neil young & crazy horse again in & so happy i did. got tons of songs i didn't catch tuesday ("barstool blues"! "down by the river"! "dangerbird"! "fuckin' up"!), tour debuts ("when you dance"! "big time"!), & what felt like even deeper ("powderfinger"! "love & only love"!). molina & talbot have always had their own special pocket & it's so rare/cool to hear a rhythm section age with their singer into something even heavier, if less nimble. also, a j. mascis sighting.

does anyone happen to have access to the wall street journal archives from the '70s? i'm looking for one specific article that should be pretty easy to find (and, really, just the date of that article) & would very much appreciate some assistance.

#NowPlaying - a ground zero for so much, but why so many cowrites for kevin ayers & so few lead vocals? is it like the neil-young's-voice-was-too-weird-for-the-springfield thing or just cuz ayers was the new guy? and how many steps between "we did it again" & oneida's "sheets of easter"? @Corry342 @vinylrecords #canterbury #prog

the “loose lucy” episode of the good ol’ is up today & it is our delight! another dip into the CBS multitracks, plus we hit the road with the dead in june ’74. go under the hood of phil lesh’s new quad bass, hang out by the FREE STUF booth, & have a private lunch at the bank of boston with jerry garcia & ron rakow. reminded of one of the many reasons my partner is amazing: at the first american all tomorrow's parties in 2008, she beat in a few hands of poker (& actually won some $$) at the all-night table without knowing who he was or that he was a professional world series of poker player. she says he was... poker-faced.
