@mrcompletely i don't think it's screened outside festivals yet, but a friend was involved in this swamp dogg documentary & it's wonderful. worth keeping an eye out. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30835291/
@mrcompletely my contribution: i told them that swamp appeared on the same KQED calebration broadcast as the dead in 8/70 & they totally found the never-circulated video (not the full quad version though).
i have been a paid pro customer of otter.ai for 5+ years, the deadcast would not be possible without it, & i am beyond miffed at their account changes.
my "pro" plan previously allowed for 1,200 minutes of transcription per month, which i never used. but now i am limited to 1,200 minutes over 10 files. in a typical month, i upload 40-50 (or more) much shorter files from different sources.
my entire working library of audio is in there, so feeling trapped.
in addition, otter have also eliminated direct email tech support & now everything has to go through their stupid knowledge-base system. i chose to pay for a pro account for a few reasons & otter just eliminated them.
in short, if you need a reliable automated transcription service, choose one that's not otter. i'm really sorry if you're using them based on my previous glowing recommendations & you're now just as fucked as i am.
@mrcompletely i'm truly at a loss. like, i can't emphasize how much the deadcast runs on otter. in addition to all the interviews we've done, i've spent tons of time uploading & organizing old archival interviews & news scraps, like hundreds of them, so they can be searchable, and there's no way to really export it & start fresh. upset with myself for trusting (checks notes) other people!
@mrcompletely even more maddening: a few times, we've had to download individual audio files we'd previously uploaded, but they were severely compressed into lesser quality audio.
oh and files are suddenly capped at 90 minutes instead of 120, so i have to pay extra to read the 95 minute interview i just uploaded. shaking with rage.
@sbourne appreciated. my hope is to ultimately switch to a local app (with no subscription costs) on my harddrive. the pain point right now is exporting the hundreds of hours of audio from otter.
@mrcompletely@sbourne yeaaaaah, even trying to get my head around the logistics of starting fresh without a mass export option feels fully insurmountable right now given all other projects/deadlines. the source files are spread over so many places. i knew i shouldn't trust the cloud, but sometimes we fuck around & find out in no particular way but our own.
What is the correct setlist for #GratefulDead's Rockin' The Rhein? Wikipedia mentions a third set, the archive.org has the same ordering as the official release, and deadlists begs to differ. :/
@mrcompletely@chooban@InstituteJerry fascinating, i don't remember the specifics, but jeremy berg & janelle west did a presentation (as i recall) about how the musicbrainz data fields didn't smoothly accommodate the metadata for a dead show, though not sure how far deep they were going. vaguely recall it causing confusion when there were 2 "versions" of a song in the same file set. https://heads.social/@bourgwick/109916839026558170
david grisman & richard greene’s great american string band opens, featuring garcia on banjo & (replacing taj mahal on bass) buell neidlinger, cecil taylor/archie shepp collaborator (!!). photos & some silent footage, but no tapes seem to have survived. according to some lore, it was a day/period when the roadies were still busting tapers, but see below... [3/10]
@mrcompletely@bookstodon yup, & quite present (unlike, sadly, greatdismal). and, yeah, i meant just dialogue/vibe wise, the way most pre-star wars sci-fi movies feel/look different (even though this is technically post neuromancer).
