Realizing that while I’m usually a goody-two-shoes*, I'm not sure I /give a crap/ about online sellers doing a little bit of trademark violation, as a treat.

Your uncle at Nintendo is not, in fact, materially harmed by RandoEtsyHattery1983 selling ripoff Pokemon caps, & they may sell other semi-original designs I do want!

  • (what the fuck. how are you going to rag on somebody for WEARING TWO SHOES? pretty sure the shiftiest MF you know probably wears two shoes also!)

    store brand classic vanilla, obviously, none of these twee cookie based things (those /can/ be good too, but, they do not fill quite the same shaped hole in the appetite/mood; also sometimes they are inedibly hard? idgi)

    I don't know why but the weird gray fake paragraphs and image placeholders with the moving shine really bug the hell out of me when a website is loading.

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @philiph I prefer it to "everything jumps around as shit loads because there are /no/ placeholders”, but otherwise yea it's kind of weird/distracting

    WANT: slightly quirky and/or understated baseball cap/s. nerdy stuff (but not like, the word "GEEK" in huge impact font, wtf people), unusual or tastefully minimal logos, etc.

    DO NOT WANT: to accidentally support garbage websites that rip off artists or pump out low-quality products. (see: redbubble, spreadshirt)

    Like, I find myself searching around to see if Threadless is still any good (they were, like 15-20 years ago?) or wondering if I can dodge sketchy sellers on Etsy.

    @chadoakenfold honk! 🙏🏻

    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @davesnider amazing! also a good suggestion, I was meaning to dig into local-for-me stuff anyways (like, not sure I just want a hat with the state outline on it, but…)

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    To clarify previous post - I'm mostly looking for marketplace/vendor suggestions, not specific hat suggestions (tho I totally welcome the latter too!)

    basically, when you think “I need more neat apparel", where do you shop?

    Vale, Storm. Occasionally a frustrating idiot, but always a good kitty, right to the end. Thank you for 19 years of companionship.

    @freakboy3742 😭😭😭 I’m so sorry Russ! What a good kitty. All the hugs.

    Having a home contractor that likes to text (over iMessage no less) is such a nice change of pace for us socially anxious types. Fuck voice telephony, man.

    In unrelated news I am talking to a smaller more local electrician because the place that did a good job installing my #EV's EVSE (this meant a significant upgrade to my detached garage's electric service, so, not a small job) has either fired or quit both the guy who spearheaded that work, AND the guy I was talking to about the next job. In about a year's time.

    Could be coincidence, but that turnover means I'm shopping around again, JIC.

    $deity help me, I'm considering getting a dedicated mechanical keyboard /for my iPad/ (rather, for my previous iPad, which is now relegated to "worktable/cardtable data entry”)

    (eg the NuPhy Air75, Keychron K3 Ultra-slim, etc)

    Already have a passable stand for the tablet itself, and combo stand-keyboard-case dealies cost as much or more vs these boards…🤔

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @joe_no_body yup if I was using these as laptop replacements I’d just get one of those, this is a dumb niche case (have laptop but hate using it around the house and losing all my careful window arrangement, it’s more of a “desktop I can take on trips”)

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @joe_no_body so when the question becomes “how to make typing shit into this iPad-on-a-stand suck less” suddenly the silly lowpro mechs that cost <= a keyboard-case, become a real option

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    Hmm Keychron has ‘Pro' K-series which offer QMK. I'm gonna go ahead and guess this would be complete overkill for something I'm mostly going to use with an iPad. OTOH…🤔

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    Forgot to follow up: I ordered a Keychron K7, non-Pro. In stock, pleasing aesthetics, has Home/End/Pgup/Pgdn which I figure might be kinda useful for intended use case, but is otherwise very compact. Somewhat on sale, so a good $30 less than the Pro.

    @tyrel hey, you have an extra mouth to feed now, so you might have to scale back on the disposable income spending problem 😂

    @adam I didn't actually see any option for optical? just mech red/blue/brown (went with red, partly as I never have).

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @adam from the reading I did it sounds like they change up their options and lineups pretty often, so I'm guessing that was "a thing" a while ago and maybe all the copy didn't get updated

    So if I wanted to run a public-facing wiki for targeted “learning in public” and a small non-technical community, what’s a good hosted (presumably paid; advertising not OK) option for that? Notion? …?

    Open-based a plus but not a hard requirement; Mediawiki almost certainly not easy enough to use unless someone has put in a lot of work on a hosted version with a slimmed-down Visual Editor.

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @luis_in_brief Obsidian + their Publish service?

    bitprophet,
    @bitprophet@social.coop avatar

    @luis_in_brief Tho I’m not sure how easy it is to community-collaborate with Obsidian, my focus on it is very personal.
