New_ Public is starting a project on hyperlocal online communities -- neighborhoods, towns, that kind
of thing.

I'd be in, if something like this existed in my neighborhood, and is better than Nextdoor!

honestly feel like I'm losing my fucking mind reading this shit. how does this make any fucking sense? you send an AI bot to a video meeting you're not attending where presumably other coworkers will also send their bots?????? to what fucking end? what is the point of this? why are we having NPCs video chat with eachother? what gets done with this? what is the purpose? how is this not just a fucking email? is this what jokerfication is? this doesn't make any fucking sense!

@radicalrobit @bkeegan it’s neat when technology clarifies that something we’re doing doesn’t make sense (eg pointless meetings). I remember when MOOCs came out I was hoping it would eliminate instructionist lecture based education.🤷

YouTube search needs a way to downrank videos commenting on the actual video you're looking for.

Whenever I search for Foo, most of the results are videos commenting on Foo rather than Foo itself. Example: "baby reindeer Martha interview" returns mostly comments on the actual interview.

💡Idea: a browser extension that looks at the transcript of a video to determine if it's commenting on another video or if it's the actual video, and hide/show it from the search results.

@julian server choice is a big one, then the fact that people's contacts did not move to Mastodon is an even bigger one. People want to continue following the same people they followed before.

Using patches is tricky because updating Mastodon via images (like we do) makes the update process more complicated.

I do think we should continuously revisit the default suggested accounts that we include in our instance to make the experience marginally better.

@drew @jbigham the problem is that if people already have a hard time picking a client, telling them to pick an even more obscure fork of the client or server is one more reason not to use.

It's the same problem Linux had, unfortunately. Although maybe 2025 is the year of Linux! 😂
