Apple Music has released its inaugural list of the 100 best albums of all time. Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill"came in at No. 1, sparking some debate by music fans who thought Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was a more worthy winner. Here's a story from the Independent about the list. We want to know, which of these DIDN'T make the top 10?
Here's a car I'd actually drive, the Polestar 2. I think Polestar has the best wheels in the car biz right now. They don’t have any exciting colors, but this understated blue does match their ascetic aesthetic. #ConfiguratorGames
Gonna repeat again: This is who the #GOP is. Their collective horror at this woman grimacing through her comfortable life is horror at themselves.
It came off as no worse than your average James Comer hearing, after all.
Daily Beast's Jake Lahut:
NEW on private GOP freakout brewing over Katie #Britt's #SOTU response:
“Everyone’s fucking losing it. It’s 1of our biggest disasters ever.” Being likened to Rubio water bottle moment & Bobby Jindal's infamous 2009 SOTU response.
Julia Ioffe, Washington correspondent for Puck News, said: “Imagine you’re sleeping over at a friend’s house and you get up in the middle of the night to pee and you hear a weird sound so you follow it to the kitchen, where your friend’s mom is drunk, crying, and rambling about the national debt. Those are the vibes from Katie Britt right now.”
So, what do we think of the new Grammy category "Alternative Jazz," awarded for the first time this year? The nominees were "Love In Exile" by Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Shahzad Ismaily; "Quality Over Opinion" by Louis Cole; "SuperBlue: The Iridescent Spree" by Kurt Elling, Charlie Hunter, SuperBlue; "Live At The Piano" by Cory Henry; and (the winner) "The Omnichord Real Book" by Meshell Ndegeocello.
I'm not sure exactly how Kurt Elling and Arooj Aftab belong in the same category, but at least this way Ndegeocello doesn't have to compete with, say, Fred Hersch.
On the one hand, more attention to the diversity of jazz is good, and more attention to jazz with another award is good publicity.
On the other hand, I've never heard that term used or defined before. Isn't pretty much all #jazz "alternative"? Does anyone know of an "alternative jazz" radio station or section in a record store?
