I’ve been using Prowl (https://www.prowlapp.com/) to programmatically send push notifications to my phone since 2009. No fancy tricks, just works. It does one thing, and it does it well.

That’s how most services should work IMHO. No need to add shiny thing, just do the basic things you’re designed to do and provide a simple API (use it via curl or use the available librairies available in most programming languages)

@sdarlington ah well, there isn’t much to do in those cases

akosma,
@akosma@mastodon.online avatar

@panjkov @sdarlington yes, LODs are great but sometimes for ad-hoc / one-shot trainings they either aren't feasible (not enough time to prepare, and anyway, won't be repeated).

The communication of requirements is super important, but there's always people who don't read. In such cases, I have, in the past, asked them to leave. Yes, even if they were paying customers. This sends a message to the other people that I value their time as much as they value mine.

@akosma@mastodon.online avatar

@panjkov @sdarlington I've had people showing up to iOS native app dev workshops with Windows laptops, even though I repeated the requirements in every single email I sent them. Thankfully not the majority.

“One of my preferred restaurants was “Carlitos”, in the corner of Vergara and Libertador, whose owner and cook was exactly the same Carlos Ciuffardi from Villa Gesell. Once a month my mum took me to the Pumper Nic in the corner of Yrigoyen and Libertador to have a “Mobur” (a sandwich with ham and a fried egg) with “Frenys” (French fries).”

"Tax policy groups have been lobbying to close this loophole for years, and Congress nearly did it in 2022, but Senator Kyrsten Sinema took $2 million from the private equity industry (aka Owners) and saved their $14 billion loophole. It’s well known that our leaders are whores. What’s more surprising, and disappointing, is what cheap whores they are ($2 million for $14 billion)."

The latest KDE neon with Plasma 6 looks pretty useable nowadays. My Linux Desktop is still secondary and serves mostly as server and TV display. It either shows videos or a huge 40” full screen terminal above my Mac workstation.

It runs Pop-OS now which is also based on Ubuntu so switching would be possible (but it’s work). I’ll keep KDE Neon in mind if I ever manage to fully drop Mac OS.

I think it is about time that people start speaking about trickle-up economics… it’s not enough to denounce that trickle down does not work.

@juandesant Piketty literally wrote a (great) book about how trickle-down doesn’t work but he was probably a bit too early and was widely criticized https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_in_the_Twenty-First_Century

I read a 350 page book about NeXT and it took me about 100 page to realize it was from 1993 so it missed all recent events including a billion iPhones running its descendent.

In 1993 NeXT was a (financial) train wreck and Jobs was a loser in addition to the usual asshole. It’s amusing to read this in 2023. Not a very good book for me as it has really few tech details. It’s mostly about business.

"Something happens when one tries to have rational conversations about downsides with people strongly advocating expansion of type-level programming capabilities (…) This happens all the time once extensive type-level programming facilities are available in a language–they immediately get misapplied in ways that makes code harder to understand, excludes beginners and fails to convince those from the outside."
