@ErikJonker Be careful with ascribing a single extreme (partial) season to climate. If Canada has a well-below average rate of forest fires next year, will that be evidence against climate change? The evidence for anthropogenic climate change is overwhelming—but it is found in long-term measurements, not one particularly hot and dry June.

• falsified a "payment agreement" between FTX & Alameda
• backdated it by ~2y
• wet signed it to avoid DocuSign timestamp
• submitted it to an external auditor
• used it to obtain a $400M funding round

relic of the first draft of the sham agreement that Attorney-1 created in March 2021—nearly two years after Bankman-Fried supposedly signed it. Bankman-Fried and the FTX Group also used the sham Payment Agent Agreement to support their claim to the outside auditor that fiat currency of FTX.com customers did not need to be recorded in FTX Trading Ltd.’s audited financials. FTX Trading Ltd. informed its auditor that, pursuant to the agreement, Alameda “provides cash management services to FTX.” A member of FTX Trading Ltd.’s external accounting team who was closely involved in the audit explained in an e-mail to the FTX Group’s external counsel working on the IPO that pursuant to this “cash management agreement,” Alameda “manages the fiat aspects for customers.” She explained, because “we have been using Alameda as our payment processor, we have not recorded the customer fiat nor their crypto balances on our books as an asset or liability.” After Attorney-1 caused the outside auditor to be provided with the Payment Agent Agreement, the outside auditor prepared an audited financial statement of FTX Trading Ltd. that inaccurately and misleadingly characterized FTX Trading Ltd.’s relationship with Alameda, and did not record any fiat currency of FTX.com customers. While the IPO was not ultimately consummated, the FTX Group proceeded to share the false and misleading audited financials with potential investors in connection with its $400 million Series C financing that closed in Ja

So, roughly, how much is this search for wealthy elites using a purely scientific technology being used for tourism purposes going to cost the taxpayers? Anyone? Anyone?

@shoq It’s somewhat fraught. We spend enormous sums to recover crashed aircraft in order to understand how to prevent other crashes (this includes experimental aircraft built by less-than-competent amateurs). Understanding this failure may help prevent future failures on less frivolous adventures. The Coast Guard and RCAF have to regularly train for search and rescue anyway, so this exercise isn’t without independent value.

It seems insane to force them to individually sue for relief. What’s the distinction between a company that refuses to pay or renegotiate its obligations and a company that is bankrupt?

    @ColinTheMathmo @two_star @Dyoung I don’t consider myself to be a mathematician but I have no issue with others choosing to call themselves that. For the sake of argument, there are a lot of people who help guide the adult the child becomes or the professional the student becomes. I can take pride in my small part without laying claim to their success. My students become engineers or technicians or writers or a myriad of other things, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute.
