Do you know this book? The Awesome Autistic Go-To Guide: A Practical Handbook for Autistic Teens and Tweens by Yenn Purkis and Tanya Masterman

I don’t have children but I’m wondering about it, and if I can suggest it when someone is asking a book for young people. The book is aimed to 10-14 and the author are autistic.

Loneliness hit me hard today. And the big contradiction is that I also feel better alone being autistic and I know that there is no solution to this. So how do you cope with this my fellow autistic?

adelinej,
@adelinej@thecanadian.social avatar

@Cassandra Me too but I realize that I miss interaction in person, I miss this connection, I miss just hang out physically with someone. It’s hard to explain.

@adelinej I hope the feeling of loneliness subsides soon. [heart]

I firmly believe that my autistic burnout around 45 is linked to the beginning of perimenopause.

@adelinej I started experiencing this in my early 40s. I thought I was totally losing my mind!

@msquebanh Me too and it was a nightmare because I was “too young“ for my family doctor to be in perimenopause. 🙄

So much fun this morning with my beginners learners, because we have an amazing relationship, thanks to the possessive in French:

  • “no you can’t say ta auto“ (because of the vowels), you have to say “ton auto“, 😭

  • “but you told me that ton is for masculine and auto is feminine, no?” 😱

  • “no it’s sa voiture and not son voiture" even if he’s a man because voiture it’s feminine 🤪

  • etc.

I love teaching to my beginners because we laugh a lot together. 😁

#AskingAutistics I’m looking for testimonials/info regarding sensory compression clothing/vests. I’m wondering about the compression level and if the fabric is breathable.

Why? Because, I’m looking into the medical compression garments for an health issue, and there is no way that I’m going to bear one as it’s very sweat inducing. I’m wearing a compression bra for months and it’s a sensory nightmare because of the sweat. 😭 So, sensory clothing might be a solution.

“AuDHD represents a blend of ADHD and autistic traits, leading to unique experiences and challenges. When the underlying needs of ADHD and autism interact, it can feel like a tug of war for the AuDHDer - Do I need routine or spontaneity? Newness or familiarity? Busyness or a steady pace? Though these examples are quite simplistic, they illustrate the internal confusion of the AuDHDer attempting to address their needs.”

An online friend announced a few days ago that her son, diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago, has been also diagnosed as autistic and with Tourette syndrome. It took 3 years but I’m happy for him and his mum because they finally know! And she thinks that his dad he’s probably autistic too because it runs in the family. 😉

One time I tried to explain something to a family member that doing a specific thing was hard for me, and they said " Yes but Bob's nephews can do it so you should be able to do it too" . 🙄

PSA: If you've met one autistic person you've met one autistic person.
