I know ChatGPT 4O is amazing, but I'm beyond revolted and offended by it's fake caring enthusiastic attitude. I expect to ask it about my friend's cancer, and it either tell me how amazing it is I'm getting this first hand experience, or to tell me how sorry it feels I'm going through this. Either is infuriating in a way hard to explain, and inspires fantasies of kicking OpenAI devs in the balls! The world is full of fake. Do we really need an LLM pretending to care? Fucking revolting!

@jscholes @bryansmart Once again we have a feature that at best should be opt-in not opt-out.

acarson,
@acarson@babka.social avatar

@bryansmart @jscholes What's even more messed up about this is I can almost guarantee there was 0 user testing to find out if this pretend caring/empathy was anything users actually want. It was likely someone sitting in a meeting going "This is a good idea" followed immediately by everyone else in the meeting being yes men about it and then it got implemented.

We have the windows open because it's nice outside. I am sleepy and John is taking a nap, there's more beans left so I will likely eat some of that for dinner, and I'm doing my best to get the rest of today's work done. Shabbat can't come fast enough. #today

With Chrome announcing support for UIA, it might be worth retesting some of your patterns with Narrator, Voice Access, Magnifier: https://developer.chrome.com/blog/windows-uia-support?hl=en

I didn't think UIA was quite mature, but I am also old enough to forget Windows’ prior but somehow also current #accessibility APIs. So I may simply be wrong.

Oh hey, it’s .

Be on the lookout for the (mostly corporate) performative A11yship of which is about to fill your timelines.

A couple years ago I demonstrated companies as the worst offenders:

    @bryansmart @PamelaBarroway Yeah except they tend to leave out all the explicit stuff about dismantling all the other states.

    acarson,
    @acarson@babka.social avatar

    @bryansmart @PamelaBarroway Well to clarify, I think I do know something like 3 actual anti-nationstate people who will state explicitly what they wayt. The rest though are just selective about it.

    serge, to random
    @serge@babka.social avatar

    My estimate, based on several analysis, is that the Fediverse is about 3% explicitly antisemitic. This is based on analysis I've done on hate messages across the Fediverse, analysis on my own posts, etc.

    Then there's another layer of people who believe antisemitic lies and will spout the, though often they'll do it "carefully" so as not to show the appearance of hate. I have many examples of this. These kinds of people are peddlers of social capital and see that they can get away with advocating violence against Jews in coded language in one post, then be celebrated by saying they "Don't hate anyone" in another- giving cover to their hate.

    Finally, there's a huge majority that is simply silent. They don't want to "get involved".

    Well as John Mellencamp says "Silence is Complicity".

    So, my non-Jewish friends... what about you?

    Everyone keeps talking about bringing back the old web, and honestly maybe I'm missing something, but it never went away. I'm still using it thanks to an RSS reader and a personal website.

    Granted, it's way less popular than it was when it was in its hayday, but it's still here. So go use it.

    dukepaaron, to random
    @dukepaaron@babka.social avatar

    The fediverse is my last stop on the social media trail.

    And right now I'm teetering on packing it in. Twitter was shit but it was a better experience as a Jew.

    This place is a deluge of hot garbage and so was twitter. But twitter had hundreds of thousands of Jews. Including our public intellectuals. Jews from all walks of life. Jews from many denominations. Jews from all over the world.

    What does the fediverse offer in comparison? Mostly just the game of 'out the antisemite' which is boring AF.

    acarson,
    @acarson@babka.social avatar

    @dukepaaron @AlliFlowers @Bam @judah Just to add to this thread, I completely understand where dukepaaron is coming from with regard to Twitter, and I also completely understand everyone who left because Elon and the people he platforms. I left for the same reasons. Well, that, and he fired the entire accessibility team. I also agree with dukepaaron that the fediverse is absolute hot garbage when it comes to antisemitism, and the constant need to block, especially people who used to be awesome until they took the damn mask off, has me feeling all kinds of not pleasant feelings. Fortunately there's bird.makeup, which lets us bring over the Twitter accounts we used to love to read, and while we can't do a massive Jewport with it, we can use it to make our home timelines a bit more bearable. With all of that said though, the fediverse is my last social media stop. If things get to a point where they're intolerable here despite mitigation steps, I'm out.

    All antisemitism is abhorrent. But people need to know when they're being played. One of the richest and most powerful guys ever to live is building a Nazi minting machine and Republicans aligned with him want us all focused on Ivy league campuses to undermine the horror at Netanyahu's atrocities.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/x-twitter-elon-musk-nazi-extremist-white-nationalist-accounts-rcna145020

    acarson,
    @acarson@babka.social avatar

    @bryansmart @richard_merren @lolgop Republicans and democrats aren't homogenous ideological blocks, and support for Israel isn't necessarily an indicator that a party doesn't have its own antisemite problem. There are plenty of Christians in the Republican party who support Israel because it fits into their end-times prophecies, for example, not because they care about anyone living there. Also, Republican leadership is absolutely taking advantage of all this because it's politically advantageous for them to do so. Not that a bunch of progressives haven't absolutely handed antisemitism to them on a silver platter.

    dukepaaron, to random
    @dukepaaron@babka.social avatar

    In the interests of annoying everyone in the hard line politics and morals sportsball team model of life...

    There's nothing inherently antisemitic about protesting to end a war. Arresting peaceful protesters on college campuses for civil disobedience is not a great look. Regardless of whether you agree with them or not.

    On the flipside, chanting things like "yehuda yehuda," "we're all Hamas," or "Remember the 7th of October! That will happen not one more time, not five more times, not 10 more times, not 100 more times, not 1000 more times, but 10,000 times!" surely is all meant to be pirposely antisemitic.

    Holding a sign that reads “Al-Qassam’s next target" with an arrow pointing to a group of Jews isn't anti-war or even anti-zionism. It's fucking crazy is what it is.

    So stop strong arming protests. They're normal. Even if they have very fucked up elements in them.

    Protestors, you got a 'nazi bar' problem and you should fix it or fuck off. There's no excuse for this shit.

    acarson,
    @acarson@babka.social avatar

    @dukepaaron There's nothing inherently antisemitic about protesting for an end to a war. This stuff blew way past the vanilla antiwar line on October 8. It is absolutely antisemitic to tell the Jewish state to stop fighting an enemy that has made it abundantly clear that it will do everything in its power to ensure that state and the Jews living within it no longer exist when the people telling the Jewish state to stop fighting have absolutely zero intent to ensure the genocidal enemy can't achieve its goals except offering more hope as a strategy which is the left-flavored thoughts and prayers. "Totally agree with the bit about the nazi bar problem though. Either fix it or fuck off.

    acarson,
    @acarson@babka.social avatar

    @dukepaaron Also if that civil disobedience involves arrestable offenses, like trespassing, then the civilly disobedient should expect to be arrested. It's kind of part of the game. Otherwise it's not really civil disobedience.

    acarson,
    @acarson@babka.social avatar

    @dukepaaron @TonyStark All of this has gotten way past the point where not arresting them can be an effective tactic. It's also one that's been tried up to this point, with zero change. I probably would have agreed with you entirely about not arresting at the beginning of this, but either people start getting arrested/fired/otherwise experiencing consequences for this shit or it continues to escalate and Jews continue to pay the price.
