It's a tough day when everyone you work with directly, including your manager, is laid off -- excuse me, "had their roles reduced", and you're asked to onboard their replacements, people told to take those very same roles just in a different country who are not any happier about it. (It's almost like capitalism isn't actually good and you shouldn't want to live in the US.)
I suspect I'll be taking Akio on extra long walks for the time being.
@jyasskin the new ones are in Munich, so they have a works council (as do I, in .nl). The right people there have been notified. Right now I'm trying to not burn any bridges while I figure out what I can do for the old team.
If you're into speculative fiction, or just interested in different types of writing, khลrรฉล has an amazing track record in just three years, and it's well worth the $20 for the four issues. (Also I would be sad if they didn't make their funding goal.)
Yay, I managed to use "enableable" and "unique selling point" in an official Python Steering Council acceptance, and it survived all rounds of edits by other SC members :P
Then and now (three and a half years later). Demi still manages to look like a kitten, because she's always next to Akio... (She's actually bigger than most female cats, although her head is a bit small for her size.)
After a packed 2-hour handover meeting, I'm now officially no longer @ThePSF Board Chair (or President), nor a Board member at all. Very excited about everyone on the Board, the newly appointed officers, and the staff!
I'm eager to see them continue the PSF without me being directly involved! :)
It was also quite strange to remove myself from all those Slack channels and mailing lists after so many years... Maybe I want back! I think I'll cry softly in a corner now.
I didn't actually take this pic (my wife did) and it turns out I was wrong in the alt text. Akio wasn't washing Demi, he's yawning behind Demi. (I thought she looked big compared to him...)
An interesting effect of the (perceived) social acceptance of COVID-19 vs. (mild) flu: I now wish my two COVID tests since getting a sore throat weren't negative, because it's much easier to cancel plans if you have COVID versus "just" mild flu...
I still don't want to spread mild flu, but it sounds like a very weak excuse to cancel plans (especially when it's a rare chance to catch up with people who're in town just this week).
