What's people's favourite on ? I tried for a bit but always find myself coming back to the official mastodon one. I like things plain and simple and I'm not bothered about having a "twitter-like" experience as I came from Reddit before landing here. Any suggestions?

I've been thinking about getting a for ages but decided to hold out for a instead. I had a whole plan for what case and SSD to buy etc. but now that the is around the corner, it looks like most of the stuff I would've gotten isn't compatible with the new board.

Can anyone more experienced in the world give me a general idea of how long I'll be waiting before things like the case get a Pi5 variant?

A much-requested feature added to Mastodon 4.2.0 is the ability to follow accounts in Lists while hiding them from your Home timeline.

To do this:

  1. Log into your server's website
  2. Click on Lists (on mobile it's an icon with three dots and three lines)
  3. Click on the list whose contents you want to hide on Home
  4. Click the slider icon in the top right corner
  5. Activate the option labelled "Hide these posts from home"

(Note that this hides the chosen list's entire contents from Home.)

The latest version of Mastodon (4.2.0) brings full text search, so you can search by words instead of hashtags.

However, for privacy reasons this only includes posts by people who have actively opted into full text search.

If your server is updated to 4.2.0 and you want to opt into full text search:

  1. Log into your server's website
  2. Click your profile icon
  3. Click "Edit Profile"
  4. Click tab "Privacy & Reach"
  5. Tick box "Include Public Posts In Search results"
  6. Click "Save Changes"
