When I got married I started using the M. or Mr. title but after a few years it just felt too old fashion for me so I stopped using them entirely. It's rarely a problem, but in the financial world it seems that having to specify your title (and indirectly your gender/marital status) is still the required norm.

Have you heard this from the Conservatives or your annoying family member?

"In a press release, the Conservatives argued that given their proposed tax break, the average Canadian family could save $670 this summer with people in Alberta saving the most at $955 per family."

To save that much, people would have to drive 37,000 kilometres during their holidays. 37,000 kilometres!!!!!

Bwahaha!!! Our 4 year old car doesn't even have 37,000km on it!

Started a long overdue mini project: adjusting the height of the dryer exhaust intake in the laundry. It wasn't installed with dryers on pedestals in mind. So having the connection from the dryer do a loop da loop certainly affects efficiency.
The vent ductwork is behind a finished wall. Cut away some drywall and take out the existing connection to now realize I can't re-use it so I'm off to the hardware store to get the correct one.

One of my least favourite things about Ottawa is that everyone expects you to have a car and be able to just drive to wherever to do whatever. Not my friends, but the general population. It's just so gross.

I didn't get my driver's licence until my mid 30s, so I got that reaction A LOT in my life.

Squeezed in a four km walk before noon, as it'll be warmer this afternoon, and there's not a cloud in the sky. By the end of the walk we were watching for the streets with shade trees to alter our route.

Guess it's that season to follow the weather choosing grey or drizzley days for the best walking.

ShaunOttawa,

@ottaross I did a couple hours of yard work this morning. Got it done before it got too hot.

ShaunOttawa,
@ShaunOttawa@mastodon.social avatar

@ottaross
We also did some gardening yesterday. It was teasing that it would rain, but we got it done without getting poured on. Tomorrow I don't have to get dirty in the yard so I can just relax after breakfast.

Why is Presto's website absolute hot garbage?

ShaunOttawa,
@ShaunOttawa@mastodon.social avatar

A month ago I cancelled my lost Presto card and ordered a new card to replace it. I still haven't received the new card. Went to order another replacement and I get this useless error: "Technical exception occurred. Please try again later." WTF?
Do they want people to use transit or not?

I remember that was a pilot a while back. Does it work everywhere now?

I use it a couple time a week for work, and it takes like several minutes to launch sometimes.

Oooh you doubled your secure bike parking to 62. Welcome to 1985 ESDC.

ShaunOttawa,
@ShaunOttawa@mastodon.social avatar

@lanastewart
I've easily worked in a dozen different buildings over the years, and only 2 had indoor bike parking at the time I worked there. Many don't even have a secure area at all, it's outside locked to whatever shitty rack they bothered to install. Frustrating how bad we are at this.

ShaunOttawa,
@ShaunOttawa@mastodon.social avatar

@lanastewart
I'll be going from 1 day/month to 3 days/week at some point. For the once a month I go to Portage which does have a bike room. But for RTO3, we have no idea where we'll be reporting too. We need to conjure up some office space from somewhere while PdP3 is under construction.

I didn't like school a that much, especially high school. Somehow that motivated me to get the fuck out of there as fast as possible and move on to the next thing.
My teens, they don't like school much either, especially high school. But instead they're languishing there. No end in site. One kid hasn't attended a single class in months. I'm tired of this 😭

On the revert reds, TWICE this week I had revert reds happen to me (once I rolled off the dots too soon and the other I wasn't in the right place and forgot I wouldn't get my signal that way) and BOTH TIMES the motorists at the cross streets waved me to go through the intersection anyway. It was very nice.

I think that the first time (Kenilworth/Holland) the guy saw me swear up a storm when I saw it revert red lol

@ksawatsky @dairpo @casseagull
All turns should be banned while there's a walk signal on. I've had way too many close calls even when the driver had a green light (but not the right of way, but many drivers think green = go no matter what.)

  • submits another copyright dispute *
    SoundCloud needs to take their copyright detection bot out behind the shed and end its miserable existence. There's thousands and thousands of bootleg remixes on that site, and it keeps flagging my original works for non-existant violations. If some melodic loops or vocal samples were the same, that I'd understand. But nope, it's just totally different songs. You can't replace human ears with automated technology, it fails more often than not.

Like many government institutions, we have a high turnover rate at the executive level. Seems like the latest batch want to "leave their mark" and are embarking on some change transformation initiative affecting some of our main business lines. So many buzzwords, yet not a single tangible goal was expressed. Sigh...

I've actually been thinking about trying out compressed hours. Half my team already does it, so it's likely to be approved if I ask.
At lest until RTO3 kicks in, no idea how that could muck up a compressed schedule.

My recent COVID infection has been a real olfactory roller coaster.

I didn't lose my sense of smell at any point...if anything, it's become very sensitive to particular smells.

I accused my family of leaving one of their gross scented candles open, but it was actually a tree blooming outside.

I couldn't really smell my hockey equipment, but my body wash has now become a 20/10 in scent power.

Going for wings tonight, should be fun.

ShaunOttawa,
@ShaunOttawa@mastodon.social avatar

@johnefrancis
Back in Feb 2020 when I had the mystery sniffles, I had a wonky sense of taste & smell for about a week. Last year when I had a really nasty bout of Covid, I only had the "everything smells like snot" phase like any old flu.

Hard to get motivated this morning, but there's an abundance of work to do, so not like I can just take it easy. One task at a time, I'll get through the day.
