Even though I am generally satisfied with my ISP, sometimes I wonder. About an hour ago I lost my connection, checked and discovered I no longer receive an IP-adress. So I turn to the support form. But I cannot submit it without giving them my IP-adress.

It's interesting watching the pendulum swing on tools like Docker and cloud computing for some groups and how sentiment changes over time.

Because I also remember the "old days" of what managing release trains looked like if you didn't have a dedicated set of sysadmins, and often even if you did, and the massive problems of provisioning, scaling, and updating even trivial things. At least for non-Valley companies.

All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again.

Not my area of expertise, but do you think it could be partly due to a monopoly in technology? If too many flock to one solution, it grows too big and a bit stagnant, so everyone opts for revolution instead of evolution?

Can we see better balance in areas where there are at least a few technologies competing?

My first experience was trying to edit some settings and ending up having to reboot my computer to get out of the editor. :-)

This was before I ever installed X and a GUI.

Grayjay is a fantastic app, even though it is still in the testing stages. So much is really well done and thought through. To cast media to Chromecast or such is not seamless, but that will hopefully improve.

I was dual booting with Windows 98SE, and had mounted the C-drive in Linux to access some files. When done I (thought I) un-mounted the drive and ran "rm -rf" on the mount point that I had created temporarily.

Returning to surfing the web I noticed the harddrive LED flashing on my computer. "That is strange" went through my brain right before I turned to the shell in panic, hitting Ctrl+C.

Most of the Windows folder was gone. Had to reinstall. Lesson learned. :-)

You might not have asked for it, but in my humble opinion the second best after "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" is "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". But I do recommend subtitled. :-)

So ...

Until now I planned to treat the [space], >, + and ~ combinators separately, though a few > examples would show the difference with [space], and a few ~ with + ... which is pretty hard to set up if you want to use only one example file.

But what if I briefly introduce all four and then show the difference? Would that make it easier or harder to learn them all?

As far as I can tell, the first hurdle is to understand that [space] is a thing, not just there to separate words. So explaining them at the same time might be a good idea.

Has been fully abandoned now? It doesn't look like there's been any posts since April. It helped my so much over the years I hope that there's a spiritual successor out there. If not then I'd be tempted try something.

With how great a lot of the tutorials are, it would have been good if @csstricks could be integrated in or something like that. Instead of just being abandoned. But that is probably not possible.

I agree, but what form would that take? A distributed wiki? The curation is what makes resources as CSS-tricks, MDN and A List Apart so good. What platforms can distribute stewardship but keep tighter rains on publication?

Could there be some sort of federated version of Wikipedia? If the articles are distributed freely and curated by people we trust, we would not be too dependent on singular sources.
