I'd like to officially announce that Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.1 will support three Wifi 7 routers (one through Gnuton's fork):

RT-BE96U
GT-BE98_PRO
GT-BE98 (Gnuton)

Details here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/announcement-asuswrt-merlin-support-underway-for-3-wifi-7-routers.90126/

@b9AcE Some countries still don't allow 6 GHz, which is why Wifi 7 device availability is limited in some areas. The GT-BE98_PRO for instance is for North America, while Europe gets the GT-BE98.

I stil had an old can of compressed air (I usually do my PC cleaning with an USB-charging blower). Shot a really healthy dose of air into the switch itself, so far it definitely seems way better. We'll see if that lasts.

Key has been working flawlessly since then, so keyboard salvaged - for now.

Two new CVEs can cause dnsmasq to exhaust its resources with a malicious crafted DNSSEC query. Awaiting more info about a new issue that the patched dnsmasq may introduce, so I won't immediately be updating dnsmasq in Asuswrt-Merlin. Disable DNSSEC for now if worried about these issues. See my post for more details:

Tech trivia for the day: The Round-Trip Time between Earth and Voyager 1 is 45 hours. Killer ping time right there!

@b9AcE I wonder how long it would take to upload (assuming there was enough on board storage). I have the latency, but not the throughput of the transmission.

RMerlin,
@RMerlin@fosstodon.org avatar

@b9AcE According to ChatGPT, the last reported transmission rate was 160 bps. The result was: 18,218 days.

Why is password expiration considered a "good security practice"? In addition to the hassle, they also encourage people to use simple passwords (where they only increment a number), or to end up with a Post-It on their monitor because they don't have time to store new passwords more securely.

@proactiveservices Nice to see at least one government agency out there is on top of it.

Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for all supported AC models. The focus of this release is the merge with GPL 386_51997 and component updates.

@RMerlin Hey, I was just wondering: Is there some unified list somewhere of models that have been but are no longer getting updates for your firmwares?
Might be good to have such a list, so people can easily check if they should no longer expect updates for the model they have/consider getting and should look at getting a newer model.
Thanks!

@b9AcE All models are listed on the About page: https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/about

This might be more of a "Mastodon etiquette" question, but what is the general consensus there - should I put my real name (which is already publicly known anyway) in my profile, or stick with my general online forum alias, considering it's already shown in my AT handle anyway?

Tweetdeck is no longer available to free users on Twitter, so after 11 years there, I am now calling Mastodon my home.

@remi With Almalinux now focussing on being ABI-compatible with RHEL rather than a straight clone, do you think your repo packages will stay compatible with it?

@remi Excellent, thank you.

@RMerlin Just out of curiosity, is there any path to supporting the rt-3000ax HW version A1 model? (I was guessing this isn't the V1 hardware?)

Not complaining if not, just curious if I should sell this router I got or hold on to it and hope. :-)

RMerlin,
@RMerlin@fosstodon.org avatar

@qkslvrwolf Check on the box for the actual; version, it's unrelated to the hardware revision.

There are currently no plan to add support to the V2 model.
