I'm relatively unfamiliar with Linux. I'm getting a ThinkPad T460 and want to install Mint on it. Is there anything about the T460 I should know?

It’s probably been 15 years since I’ve used Linux and Mint seems to be the recommended distro for people who aren’t all that familiar with Linux like me, but I didn’t know if there was anything I should know with this ThinkPad model that anyone is familiar with. My searching around shows people saying everything from it...

Hi,
congratulations
I am a linux user on thinkpad since decades: T40 (2004), T42, T420, T450, T480 and now as I am retired, I bought a T470.... still happy
About firmware, the T470 runs with ubuntu and firmware is updated when needed. I don't know with Mint.
be happy with the 🐧

Hi Proton,
currently I use "google authentificator" is there one from proton ?
I'm trying to be logic if I move out from google for mail & drive, I must do the same for 2FA management keys.

Phil35,
@Phil35@fosstodon.org avatar

@protonmail @protonprivacy
I found a solution but not a proton one 😞
OTP Auth
and I use https://github.com/scito/extract_otp_secrets to extract secret from google authentificator.
Migration: done!🙂

Phil35,
@Phil35@fosstodon.org avatar

@protonmail
Ok
however I read
"Please note that you should never use Proton Pass to secure your Proton Account using TOTP. Use a third-party authenticator app instead. "
As a customer, I will use proton pass, but not for 2FA, I guest

May be something to do our your side?
Only one goal: better security.

for photos, I decided to buy a raspberry pi two years ago and to host photos and videos for my familly, using a free software with application on mobile phones (ios and android).
The compagny has a hosted offer, but i prefered to do in my own.
software is: https://piwigo.org/
and forum is there: https://piwigo.org/forum/
Enjoy
If question don't hesitate.

kDrive is accessible under Ubuntu, Windows and MaOS, it means that piwigo should be able to manage photos store on kDrive.

[un compte à suivre] Le Conseil national du numérique, dit "le CNNum", est sur Mastodon @info sur l'instance mim-libre* mis à disposition par le ministère de l'Éducation nationale.

Et on y parle souvent des communs numériques :
https://mastodon.mim-libre.fr/@info/111029115024989292

Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/27/23775117/microsoft-windows-11-cloud-consumer-strategy What could possibly go wrong? What if the Microsoft Cloud goes down? For instance, if a surgeon needs to access crucial information about their patients during an operation and can't due to technical issues in Windows PC in cloud. The cloud is bad for emergency use cases. Is MS going to guaranty 100% uptime?

Phil35,

For those who already have not done, it is time to move to linux, and not in a cloud ...
