When a person tells you that a loved one has passed, ask what the their name was and say it back. It can be awkward when that comes up and you might not know how to respond best. I’ve found that most people don’t want you to feel bad for them, but them saying their name and having a chance to talk about them is often a nice thing.

I’m in healthcare so death comes up a lot. “David. That’s a nice name. Where was he from?”

It’s so adorable! Wow the baby has the same markings as the adult! I think that’s uncommon for birds, right?

Yes but knowing that he was a gobshite made him wise

So frustrating! Didn’t you post a nice sunny pic of your refreshed raised beds the other day? Crazy! Canada, huh ?

Carbon capture is hands down the worst plan we have. At the rate this carbon capture plant operates it would take 100,000 of them just to offset the emission from cars alone. 100,000 plants . Imagine how much metal had to be mined for those. How much product needs to be shipped and produced and built. How much ecological damage and emissions would just building them some create? Then you realize that they use lots of power to run them. Most of the world’s electricity still comes from fossil fuels. So to offset those emissions you now need even more plants. Where are you going to put 100,000 plus plants like this? Do you know how hard it is to get these kinds of things approved? Whose land is this going on?

That’s not even the stupidest part. The idea is that these plants will suck out the carbon and use a - I can’t believe I’m about to say this- a pipeline. A PIPELINE! To pump carbon dioxide underground. I mean who has ever heard of a pipeline leaking, right? And putting it underground? Do we have even the foggiest idea of the potential effect of that? What if it just seeps out through the ground and back into the atmosphere, choking out all the life along the way?

Now if that’s the stupidest part, the evil part is this: carbon capture is an excuse to continue fossil fuel. Why should anyone stop if we are capturing it? That means the reason these fuckjng things are going to get approved is because the goddamn oil companies are backing them! It’s worse than those worthless carbon offsets since this can actually cause so much harm to the world.

I’m so pissed off about carbon capture.

Beautiful! I have all the same ones in my PNW native bed. I’ll try and share a pic today. I bet you just planted those, bc they grow super fast. In a month you won’t even see the soil anymore.

Do conservatives just want us all to give in to our enemies? And then let them take Poland and eventually the US too? Bro. Some people’s kids. The US has been at war in one form or another since the 50’s. We have fought proxy wars against them as recently as Syria in 2019 and please don’t forget that they are regularly attacking the US through ransomware attacks against hospitals, local governments, water bureaus, and banks. They are also attacking our elections through misinformation and bribery. They have directly threatened our country with nuclear war as recently as last year. If conservatives don’t love our homeland enough to defend it than thank Biden for your safety.

Well, for once the police managed to stop a shooting before it took place.

Dude awesome. I mean you gotta hand it to them. Killing it with affordable electric cars, solar panels and now this. It’s a step in the right direction, and that’s more than you could say about UK

GOP House hard-liners won’t compromise. They’re losing key fights because of it. (www.washingtonpost.com)

Democrats, Johnson told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt last week, “move in a herd” and “act like a union” following their leader because there’s no diversity of opinion causing them to stray. Their groupthink could even be described as the behavior of “socialists,” he asserted. Republicans, however, can’t be...

Ya for sure mosquito larva, however mosquitos and their larva are delicious snacks for bats and dragonflies. It’s all part of the big picture, I guess. I’ve been thinking about doing a little pond like this. We have a bat box but no bats yet. Of course I don’t want mosquitos but I have seen dragonflies and bats at night so I think nature would balance. We’ll see! I would just be so happy to see a little frog. Little wet man. Wet little boy with a big happy mouth.

Why is there a surge of deodorant products mostly advertised to women in the US?

So I have balls and yeah they’re the first thing on my body to start to smell. I can skip a shower if I’m in a hurry and I don’t smell much. That’s with working a job that’s usually physical. I was a punk kid fucking punk girls when I was younger and we didn’t bathe every day. I didn’t notice much smell then....

I’ve been seeing those too. And one of them says “72 hour protection” like what? You’re not showering for three days but you’re just going to febreeze you vageeze and call it good ? Insane behavior

Last year a Lemmy user ( I think called Thrawn) mailed me some tomato seeds of their favorite varieties, plus some mammoth sunflowers. I sent them foxglove seeds. It made me feel connected. They have all sprouted and are growing vigorously. I’m excited to eat them! Brad’s Atomic Grape tomato and Sart Roloise.

We currently have two GOP Congresswomen that did not graduate high school, and a former President that reads and writes at a third grade level. This is hardly the dunk the writer thinks it is.

I got professional photos done for my credenza. Hoping to start selling furniture. What do you think? (lemmy.ca)

Yes. It’s only wavy right there and one other spot. Didn’t want it to look too factory-made. Wanted it to look and feel more unique and hand made
