@gwynnion aka Nowhere Girl finished her newest book: "Infinity Has Your Phone Number".

It has snarky teens; sardonic swords; unintentional heroics; the creeping madness of dealing with reality; time travel accidents; cheese warriors; demons & sorcery; and the return of Navigator characters!

It's 19 stories & an encyclopedia for Navigator! It's 500 pages of the multiverse fucking around and the main characters finding out.

It's @gwynnion 's birthday - buy a book!

Watching Netanyahu, in an interview with Doctor Phil of all fucking people, argue that if Israel is stopped from "eradicating Hamas" then Iran will come for the rest of "western civilization" next and wondering if anyone realizes that he's making the exact same argument literal neonazis make on the regular re: both US foreign policy and "Fortress Europe." I know Bibi knows, but I'm astounded that mainstream society doesn't blink an eye when world leaders start quoting Dickie Spencer.

I know due diligence is required, but I'm getting tired of having to be a near-professional investigator, journalist, researcher, and historian just to read some news articles. Like "science discovers this nifty thing!" Requires me to look into the author, the site, the papers they cite, the school/corp doing the research all to insure it's not bullshit.
It's really fucking tiresome.

There are 2 types of republicans I've observed in my life. First, there are the ones who talk about monstrous things and when in the dark do the monstrous things. Power obsessed and angry.
Second are the 'reasonable ones' who try to debate, try to show a rational for their ideas about oppressing people. Often, they are fearful, scared missing something, or losing out.

Gov Noem is a rare public example that they are the same fucking person. Never trust republicans. They are always a danger.

Being white-ish/het/cis in a place like Texas - I've heard the horrifying shit the political and religious conservatives think, I know what their locker room talk is like.

From suit wearing affluent 'serious' men to fucking drug dealing white supremacists. They are all the fucking same.

Each of them are various levels of scared fucking cowards with delusions of self-importance and dreams of power. Give them titles, wealth and authority and it will ALWAYS make them worse.

Something people outside the US (and honestly most English speaking white majority nations; Australia I see your bullshit)
You might have a good encounter with your police, they might do a job, sometimes even good deeds.

In the US, we have cops, not police. Their job is nothing but violence, threats, and oppression. They get more money for weapons and military gear than many nations' entire military budgets. They are an armed occupying force that serves capitalism and white supremacy.

Seriously. I remember in 2016 thinking "Oh fuck, this is going to replicate globally isn't it?", everyone knew it would.

Though I must admit - being from the US seriously distorts my perceptions of guns. They "had access “to a massive arsenal of weapons” including 380 firearms," and my first thought was 'meh, that's barely large.'

Also - taking and holding the Reichstag with only 150k rounds of ammo is very unlikely. For a long siege and holding hostages?

Look, blocking someone isn't telling them to fuck off. That would be actually interacting with them to tell them: FUCK OFF.

Blocking is just mitigating who we want to deal with. You're a capitalist-loving fuckless coward willing to cheerlead for mass murder and genocide and I'm the fuck not. So fickity-fuckity-boo, I block you.

Go fly in the cesspool of your natural habitat of alt-right pit stains and nazi boot leather.

so many people are going to get themselves seriously hurt, sick or dead because of the failures of the internet. The bloated use of AI, the enshittification of services, the spread of intentionally dangerous misinformation.

Just dead people, who'll be blamed for their own overdoses, or 'wrongly mixed' medication - and google or whatever that told them it was safe will just keep plugging along killing more.

Apr 14: Do you keep a log of incidental characters (e.g. shop assistants) or forget them once they've featured?

I've run ttrpgs for 25 years, I can tell you honestly every character is written down and note to excess! Characters who haven't appeared have notes, like Tanis' abess or Sanis' extended family.

Now finding the file I jotted those notes down in... [wide eyed look of confusion] gimme a minute, I think the file named "story assholes" have them? Maybe "the bad guys"?

Chapter 14 of Dragons of Ruin is posted.
It's got the barest bit of blatant flirting, the confirmation of a conspiracy and some soul searching that leads to .. well, mostly Shandril changing the subject to avoid introspection.
Oh, and , I guess?

Day 10 - How much power does your MC have?

Chal'tanis.

None, and all. Knowledge is a powerful thing if wielded properly, but her order and teachings (indoctrination) make her view her role as serving others. It's her role to be of use to those who need such knowledge, not to use it herself.

In the past those such as her overturned the world, and allowing that to happen again would be terrible.. right?

Pet peeve of the day. The Far Right aren't performing 'far right activism' they are fucking terrorists.

The left protests things with boycotts, the left disrupts highways or throws paint on people.

The right sneaks into houses to kill people, shoot up clubs & burn down Black churches or synagogues.

Glen Beck, Musk or nazi-aligned judges aren't doing that shit - but they support it. They protect those who do; they are the back of the spear making sure the tip is ready to kill us.

Terrorists.

So I woke up to a video essay about 'problematic faves' that dove into a look at how we grapple with them. Assholes that make the things we love but turn out to be bigots or rapists or other evil.

It was good! The author talked about his own ‘fave’ turning out to be a problem, and how he turned his love of the work into something private. I think that ignores a major point of such things: if we keep it private, we're being silent on their horrible actions.

Silence is complicity, isn’t it?

Kalshann,
@Kalshann@mastodon.social avatar

Silence is easy. Silence makes life less complicated. Silence protects us from having to argue with people who might disagree. From co-workers to family to friends. Silence is the way we make less waves.

But that silence serves the Musks and JKRs of the world because we love their products or creations. It emboldens them because they get to do whatever they want, and because of our silence, they can continue to do so.

Those who love their work aren’t complaining, right?

Apr 9 What powers (e.g. political, religious, magical, natural) influence your characters’ lives?

Chal'tanis. History, ancestry, ancient wars, the vestiges of Imperialism, cultural expectations, government classification, childhood 'exceptionalism', to start.

All of that leading into institutionalized control & forced conformity, psychological torture, and brainwashing.

See, it's fun learning magic & being an 'adventurer'. [rolls eyes]

Kalshann,
@Kalshann@mastodon.social avatar

There is a conversation that Gwynn & I have about what makes a 'mage' (or sorcerer or wizard or what have you). Someone who'll sacrifice their life for the power to change the world, bend the laws of nature and upend the order of things? I mean - sounds good right, but you live in the order of things. It brings you pizza and you keep your stuff there.

What makes a mage? The need to change the way things are. The fear of things being as they are. [shrug]

It's not about the sun & moon.
It's about the crescent light & shadows from the leaves. The sky being grey, then midnight. The silence of wildlife as they don't know what to do, then their reality returning. The wind, soft & constant, formed from nothing more than shadows. The city lights kicking in, cars slowing as unaware drivers are confused. Children screaming about the moon to parents, and the parents freaking after the full darkness descends out of surprise.

Looking up isn't all of it.
