Haven't been able to decide which drama to watch next. I have the sense that some really good #Cdramas will drop soon and for some reason, I haven't quite been feeling the dramas I tried to start.

So now I'm trying a #Kdrama, "My Dearest" 🌸

Has anyone watched it? Does it live up to the hype?

#MyDearest

Hanktank,

@Sollenbum
"Rivers deep, mountains high", I would say. The story is fictional, but the background is realistic, in a time the Joseon monarchy was not at it's strongest point, so to say.
The fate of the Korea peninsula, squeezed between major powers.

The acting is above average !

( But that is normal in Korean drama: Korean acting is often above average 🌟)

( By the way , the hashtag Kdrama is very much alive these days, with people from all over the world posting )

Dutch Coffee ?

Watching a Korean drama years ago playing in modern times, an installation in a coffee- bar intrigued me . It appeared to be a way of coffee-making used on Dutch trade-ships in 17th C. to Asia. Called "Dutch Coffee". Ice-brewed coffee taking hours . Still popular in Asia, very few know it in Holland. ( Although a certain coffee-chain sells "cold brew).

Looking on the net, S.Korea and Japan pop up most for using it.

We have both reached age 70 today.
One of those thresholds in life you can only pass in one direction.

In Kdramaland:

Toasting on all the older actresses and actors who are still acting now.
Very versatile too !
Playing a poor lonely widow in one drama , on top of a Chaebol-heap in another.
Playing the mildly retarded abeoji in one, fighting off gangsters in another.

Geonbae !

"Minari" -2029
Korean/American award-winning movie about a Korean family settling in rural US in '80's .
Daddy is full of great plans, Mom is not so sure about it . Pubering boy has issues with Grandma joining too.
She is not the regular strict Gram he is expecting. Sometimes forgetting things too...
Minari is a popular herb all over Asia, easy to grow.
Beautiful, brilliant" Miniature".
Excellent cast, Grandma is Top !

Shocking to hear stories like "all that spam , crazy mails !" , meanwhile clicking everything they see

    What’s the scariest #film you’ve ever seen?

For me, it’s “Don’t Look Up” bc while the #movie is supposed to be satire, it’s terrifyingly plausible from my perspective as a former staffer who now studies science policy.

    Hanktank,

    @Sheril
    Haha .
    Almost similar title:
"Don't look now" with Donald Sutherland.

About 250M years ago, 90% of species on Earth died during the Permian extinction. All of that loss created a lot of vacant niches to fill. And not long after, the first mammals, our ancestors, appeared.

Life on this pale blue dot will continue to be resilient - whether or not we’re part of it.

The thought of an Evolution taking place somewhere not visible for us in this time and space is rather soothing, I dare say .

"Simon and Martina". I don't really follow them these days. But this Toronto-(ex) couple started in 2009 with promoting SK's culture in many mulit-media's. Moved to Japan, back to Can. , broke up but are coöperating again I understand. ± 1.5 million active followers still worldwide.
No links, just google: So many items they covered. And were a hub for other similar projects too.
Their global Hallyu-input is much larger than proverbial 50 cents I think

I posted this straight from my TL.
    A bit off-topic I see now.
    Nevertheless 😉

    @AnnaAnthro @jodmentum
    It excists ?
Why not , kimchi fits everywhere .🙂
I did not make it myself yet , being the only one in the family who likes it.
Buying is very expensive in The Netherlands. Around € 5 / Can$ 7 for a 450 gr. jar.

    ( Cheaper is supermarket-notKorean-fake)
Is it possibly to make small portions ?

    Thanks !
Alberta: I imagine the air a bit drier compared with the lowlands of the Netherlands. - 4 mtr. below sea level in our parts, meaning muggy, moist.
    Does that influence the fermenting?
    Like getting bad ?
Our balcony faces west, one building keeping the Sun away till Spring.
But temps average just above zero.
    Edited:
I read the recipe, going to figure that out now.

Hi, I made my first batch of kimchi today :)
Just 600 grams now outside at just above zero till monday.
And see and taste how things are going.
I used the recipe you posted mixed with a local Dutch recipe.

I hope it still does with the Grand Opening in a few days
Meanwhile I used the chili-paste Gochujang on a Korean street-food toasted sandwich too. 🙂
    Delicious !

I have been catching on with bread the last 4 years. Understanding the basics and formulas. On sourdough-level now, it is so nice to work free from recipes, as long as you stay with the basics.
I hope to get there with Asian food too !

    Hanktank,

    @AnnaAnthro @EllenInEdmonton @jodmentum
    Kimbap !
Our son worked as cook in a large hotel in Amsterdam around 2009.It had a good reputation with Asian food. He learned to make sushi. I learned it from him, basic..Made kimbap for lunch at work at airport With bike and train everyday. The kimbap did not always survive that bumpy ride: Big mess in the lunchbox. Eating itwith spoon.
( Some Koreans do actually shake a box with sushi or kimbap very hard.
Eating it as a mess seems to be tasty 🙂).

After all, it was Lucy Maud Montgomery 's "Anne Of Green Gables" who lured me to the Feminine side of All Culture around 1999.
Doubling my "scope for imagination ".

I remember photos on "bird" before and around Christmas 2019, from bookshops in South Korea and Japan.
Many had a central display in the store with everything " Anne".
    Like usual.
I wonder if they still do that ?
Many Kdramas and Jdramas have a Anne & Gilbert-theme 🙂
