So, as far as I can tell, ActivityPub is by far the most popular JSON-LD application on the Internet, with billions of actor, activity and content documents published and linked.

Is there any other application of JSON-LD that comes even close in terms of documents published, number of interoperable implementations, and importance in people's lives? I don't think VCs are even within 4 or 5 orders of magnitude.

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@evan @jack It is typed application/ld+json though.

One of the things we talked about in the Social Web Working Group was how to include binary data in the ActivityPub objects, like an Image. One proposed technique was to base64-encode the data and include it in content; another option was to use data: URLs in the url property of the object. Do any ActivityPub processors currently include inline images or other binary data?

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@evan Not us. What would it be for?

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@evan Probably the closest we've got is the blurhash property, which is a base-something encoded representation of a placeholder image.

I want to lean into a suggestion @mattl gave and consider doing shirts to promote the URL tag. (Especially as I see someone else attempting to do the same.)

But I want to make them inexpensive and minimally profitable—I’d rather they be something people can afford to promote a message than a major revenue source, if that makes sense. Any suggestions on what my best option for that might be?

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@ernie @mattl Do you mean for the Google query param? I'm not sure that's such a good idea. They could change or remove the value any time making the t-shirts immediately obsolete.

what is your favourite “new” color negative film? any suggestions?
for me:

#1 Silbersalz (wonderful colours, but don’t develop at Silbersalz, they’re crazy, just C41 at your local lab)

#2 Cinestill 400D, 800T. nice filmlook also avaliable at 120.

#3 NC500 - new emulsion, rarely works, but had some very nice results with a lot of light outside, low light horrible, colours just wrong.

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@kava Silbersalz and Cinestill are the exact same film stock, Kodak Vision3. Cinestill looks different because they remove the remjet layer and because of C41 processing (Silbersalz should go through ECN-2).

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@kava You can get Kodak Vision3 directly from 35mmdealer.de and send it to any other lab that does ECN-2, there's a list on the same website. Silbersalz lab has one advantage though, their scanner is crazy good.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

There's a film photographers' competition deadline coming up with a $1,000 cash prize for the first place (and other prizes, inc. exhibition).

It's called Analog Sparks. Entry fees range from $10 to $25, which is quite reasonable in my opinion.

I took a new (to me) lens to San Francisco, the Canon FD 50mm/1.4, which I haven't had a chance to test before going (which I in hindsight realized was not very wise). I shot 4 rolls of film on the trip. Eagerly awaiting the scans to come back from the lab...

@analog_cafe On this one, the aperture blades seemed to get stuck after the shutter press instead of returning to full open, until I wound to next frame. So of course I'm worried that it might have affected the exposure.

Back home after a very busy week in San Francisco. I spoke with @caseynewton, @mmasnick, @harrymccracken, @laurengoode, @chrismessina, @Markoff and so many others. In an age where the old web is gradually getting killed off by AI, there is still hope for the future in the shape of the fediverse.

When I worked on the Metaverse, I talked with developers about whether generative AI would make creating games cheaper and they disagreed.

They also quoted the example of CGI in Hollywood movies. It simply raised the bar on expectations versus enabling cheaper special effects.

@carnage4life People will start expecting a lot more fingers per hand.
