Same. I stopped visiting after the boycott started. A couple of days before rif went down, I popped back in to say bye to my friends on there and that was it.

Hello there!

I haven’t logged into my spezzit account either, but I did have to click on a search result that seemed to have the answer to what size screw the cooler master q300l case uses. Except no one had answered, so I compromised my principles for nothing.

Hang on, I think I get joke!

I’m overdue for an eye test. Thanks for reminding me!

Do you remember the days where people were complaining that they wanted to book a GP appointment more than 48 hours later but were being told they had to see their GP within 2 days? Good times.

20° heatwave? It’s 33° tomorrow and I’ll be cycling.

When I think tonne, I think 1000kg. When I think ton, I just think of the vernacular “tons of stuff” type expression.

Actually, as much as I dislike imperial units, when it comes to body temperature I do think in Fahrenheit. Mostly because that’s how my mum would tell if we were too sick to go to school. 99 - just a little ill, but you can have the day off. 100 - pretty ill, probably at least 3 days off. 101+ - super mega ill, off all week.

Sounds good on paper, but with half my family believing that covid is caused by 5G, I can tell you, all this will do is make them see anyone verified as “brainwashed sheep” and they’ll continue to get their advice from charlatans.

I don’t really get health advice from YouTube, but yeah, it would be useful for those who do. It just won’t be any help for those who actually want to be misinformed, sadly.

What are some commonly known facts that are too bizarre for you to believe to be true?

For me it is the fact that our blood contains iron. I earlier used to believe the word stood for some ‘organic element’ since I couldn’t accept we had metal flowing through our supposed carbon-based bodies, till I realized that is where the taste and smell of blood comes from.

Marcus Chown’s book is a good primer on quantum theory, but it will make your head spin.

(you’ll understand the dad joke after you’ve read the book)

cries in my programs won’t launch in wine

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

This may well be the right answer!

Paint Tool SAI. After messing up a few times (I thought the C drive was my actual windows HD not wine’s virtual one), I got it installed on wine, but it won’t launch. Other people have got it to work, so maybe it’s just me being a dumb noob.

appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=applica…

I should probably try again with a program that’s less easy to mess up.

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

I’m too noob to know what either of those things are. I looked them up and I’m still scratching my head lol

Yesterday was only my second time logging onto the Linux box, so I have a lot to learn.

I tried on both wine and playonlinux, but had the same issue both times. So I’ll try a simple text editor or something and see if that works.

I really don’t wanna have to go back to Windows.

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

The text editor I’ll try just to see if I’m doing the installation properly, nothing else.

I paid for SAI and I’ve used it for about 15 years. I really love it. My artwork is all saved in SAI format. Worst case, I’ll have to install it on the windows hard drive.

Thanks, man. Well it’s on its own hd and I don’t have anything important on it, so why not mess around. I’ve been wanting a Linux box since 2000 haha finally got my dream.

Do you reckon it’s worth trying to install any of these? XD

I got notepad++ to install via play on Linux, so I think it’s just this particular program that’s not cooperating.

askubuntu.com/…/wine-crashes-when-trying-to-open-…

This is the exact same issue I’m having. In the end I just installed all my art stuff on Windows :(

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

Krita looks impressive. I might give it a try. Thanks!

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

Is that the same as sudo? That’s what I’ve been using.

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

Really?! I was told to always install programs via sudo.

DakRalter,
@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

Oh the notepad thing was just a test to see if it was me or the software. I wonder if Linux has something like the old htmlkit. I never did find anything to replace it on Windows.

@DakRalter@thelemmy.club avatar

I’ve saved the link, thank you!
