I have three yahoo email accounts I still use, the oldest from about 1997 and surprisingly, the spam folder on that one rarely gets anything. (The other two are leftovers from when you had to get a yahoo account to make a geocities site). I really like the disposable addresses. Luckily I signed up back when you could have 10 on one of them. Then they ditched it for free users, but brought it back with the three limit. But I got to keep my 10.

Excite was my jam though. I was sad when I lost my excite accounts.

That’s awesome! I’m still dipping my toes into Linux Mint. I was hoping to use it as my main OS and save windows 10 only for games. Unfortunately my art programs don’t run at all on play on Linux or plain old WINE (I know there are native Linux apps for that, but I paid for SAI and my working files are in .sai format). So far, I’m only using Mint for my media libraries, and it works well for that and saves space on my Windows SSD. I have blackscreened my Linux once when trying on edit a video on kdenlive. Back to Shotcut for me!

I just had a colleague mock me (good naturedly) the other day for having an android phone. I just laughed and said, I’m no fan of Google but at least I can install what I want on here. That was the end of it, haha.

The company I work for insists on almost every damn bit of stock arriving in delivery to be wrapped in a plastic bag. I’ve complained to management, they just laugh. Apparently I can’t have any contact details for head office (not surprising since I’m not even allowed to contact HR directly and have to talk to them via a store manager). That’s like 1000+ items coming in twice a week where almost all of it is individually wrapped in a bag.

Not only is it a pointless waste of plastic, but it doubles how long it takes to clear the stock as I have to take everything out of the bag (which is sealed both ends a lot of the time) instead of just putting it straight onto the shelves. I’m almost tempted to set up a twitter account so I can @ them. Almost, but not quite.

My previous employer did the same thing, but at least we had a way to talk to head office and a bunch of us complained so they did remove most of the plastic and started to use a band of paper to hold stock together, or a paper wrapper to protect delicate stuff. They went bust though.

'They don’t have enough’ – schools in England are running food banks for families as millions struggle to feed their children, researcher says (theconversation.com)

“The peak of the cost-of-living crisis may have passed, but millions of families are struggling to buy enough food to feed their children. Experiencing food insecurity can be deeply damaging for children and negatively affects their achievement at school.,” says Will Baker, Senior Lecturer for the School of Education at...

The novelisation also has all the Biggs scenes and tells us Luke had a puppy as a child.

It also implies that the moisture farmers didn’t just harvest water, they actually used that water for farming crops (was it hydroponics? It’s been a while since I read it).

Yes. I rarely print documents, but as a hobby arts and crafter, I do print of lot of stuff for my projects. Screw inkjets, but they do have a really high resolution in photo mode, which is the only reason I haven’t ditched my nightmare printer for a laser yet.

I got it on steam for £8.32 not too long ago (including all the DLC bundled). Even as a casual gamer, I’m enjoying it ( though I kinda suck at it). Definitely don’t regret buying it.

So I made a post a few days ago, where I felt weird about a job offer I found, but it was finally someone that wanted me to work for them, so I went to meet the person. Thanks to people here reminding me to record everything I have the whole discussion by text but also recorded everything when I meet this person (And the audio...

you read well SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, whaaaat is this guy taking

Social IDs sounds like social media usernames, we don’t do “social security” numbers here, we call it national insurance numbers. They probably want contact details to spam with advertising. Edit: looking at the rest of the messages, that is exactly what they were asking for.

I saw your other post, if you’re gonna take a cash in hand job, then expect it to be dodgy.

My sisters and I would play snap with the Argos catalogue on a regular basis. Then we’d get into squabbles because “I was gonna snap that one!” “That’s not fair, I snapped it first!”

I used to love his books as a kid. It was only as an adult that I realised that torturing and murdering children was his favourite theme in his kids books.

Mucked up a whole magazine I was making. Even though I fixed it on my netbook, when I transferred it to my PC, the layout became a garbled mess. Next time, I’m gonna used Scribus, even if you have to select a different font just to make text bold.

My old Lenovo tablet’s charging plug has the port upside down, also the tablet itself has the micro USB upside down because of this, so my cable always had to do a little twist when I wanted to charge any other micro USB devices with it.

When I got my USB-C phone, I just swapped the plugs around.

It’s like when companies make a big fuss about how their clothes are made from recycled plastic bottles - so eco! - but instead of plastic bottles in the seas, it’s now microfibres from your clothing shedding into the washing machine and entering the water that way. I wish there was more movement towards hemp fabric.

My fella quit smoking at the end of September and has been using a reusable vape to stay off. I’m not a fan of vapes myself, but it’s definitely preferable to fags.

In my thread asking for advice on how to support him quitting, a lot of advice was: use vapes

I had a listen to the Sliced Bread podcast about it hoping it might help wean him off vapes, but after listening to it, I feel a bit better about it. Link if you’re interested www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001qtqk

Getting a workplace unionised is an uphill battle here too. Unless your company already has an officially recognised union, no one wants to join. I tell them it’s £9.65 a month and they’re like, yeah forget it.

What bothers me about where I work is as a bike technician, we actually have the same job title and pay as the till staff who do no skilled work at all. And on top of that, we also have to cover for them (for instance, even though I work in the bike section, I was forced to do car seat training even though the auto section till staff should be the ones doing it). So we’re doing skilled work, plus their work and we get the same pay. But no one is interested. They’ll grumble and groan, but actually doing something about it is too much to ask.

I’m a lot like that too. An article about a person I never knew dying can leave my heart aching days, weeks or even years later. I see a stranger crying and I start to cry too. And yet other things can leave me feeling nothing. My mum is in severe pain from terminal cancer and there are moments when it gets to me, but other times I feel almost nothing and I can’t tell if it’s because I’m just a heartless cow or I’m doing a really good job blocking it out (schizoid skills ftw).

I’m like that with violent scenes, even though I know it’s fake and no one is getting hurt, I still get highly distressed. I wasn’t always like that, it got to that point more in my late 20s I think. I can play fighting games and such like just fine, although the bit in Witcher 3 when one of the women gets her face slammed on a table made me upset.
