Hey here's a thing not everyone knows:

Cetirizine (Zyrtec) has been shown to be as effective as diphenhydramine (Benedryl), without the drowsy side-effects. So now that cetirizine is available OTC and as a generic, there's basically no reason to take diphenhydramine (except as a sleep aid, I guess.)

@jacob well that was the most of a scientific journal I've read in a while.

Semi-related note, eating fruit or drinking fruit juice within 2 hours of taking fexofenadine (Allegra) significantly reduces its effectiveness.

I really enjoyed using ProWritingAid, but at $30/mo it's too much for how often I use it. The AI critique was nice to have, but I can likely find something similar elsewhere. Time to give grammarly a whirl.

Had a dermatology appt this afternoon. First time for me. Was nervous after decades riding motorcycles without sun protection (dummy). Lots of spots frozen off. Only one spot sent for biopsy.

@greg I didn't know freezing them off was an option. I had a 2"x0.5" section excised a few weeks ago. It was the first purposeful scar in a while.

I have this older guy following me around at the park. Completely uninvited, he changes his walking direction to follow me around and slows me down and keeps me from my pace and podcasts. I have no interest to talking to him about himself for an hour.

Due to the layout of the park I cannot always avoid him. Today I told him directly I was late for work and couldn't talk. I picked up my pace and he CHASED ME. I'm so tired of this and would like to avoid changing my walking time. What the hell?

As part of my husbandly duties, I am being asked to attend a pool party this afternoon with a bunch of people I do not know.

I will not be pooling. Small talk will be awkward. My vampirishly pale skin is already immolating just at the thought of being in the sun that long.

I have prayed and sacrificed to all known deities for rain or other calamity to no avail. Curses.

A pug (dog) has been placed in a tiny innertube in a pool. He is wearing a black and white striped bow tie for some reason. He is not amused.

Django Debug Toolbar v4.4.1 is out. It was the product of 11 different contributors.

Some changes were:

  • Dark theme support from TheRealVizard
  • Better handling when users run tests from @veldakiara
  • Improved integration with docker
  • Architecture documentation

@sethmlarson I think the onboarding process will configure each project team that way. I'd be happy to make you an admin on the playground repo to check my work.

The biggest pain point in this regard is not being able to automate it. Though I haven't looked all that hard yet.

We're always going to lack folks maintaining repos. I hope we can lessen that by doubling down on community and adding on ramps for new contributors (see Djangonaut Space).

Regarding funding, that's a really good question. I don't have an answer there. That's why I put it under the future goals that I need others to help achieve.

#PyCon2024 had 2,551 in-person attendees and was "sold out”

#PyCon2019 had 3,393 (Checked-in people).

Anyone know why the tickets were restricted to 1,234 fewer in 2024? The venue seemed massive so should have had room.

I'm genuinely curious what the difference was. 48% more seats in 2019 is a big difference.

As the only @jazzband roadie, I want to confirm having gotten repeated offers from Tim (and from others) to help with Jazzband maintenance.

Most people would probably star the repo or something? I do star repos, but then it's like a void that I never consult again. So I'm going to try TIL-ing the repos that catch my attention, even if I don't use them.
