“Their system converts air to water using atmospheric water generators that contain a liquid desiccant, which absorbs moisture from the air.

Using sunlight or renewable electricity they heat the desiccant to 65C which releases the moisture, which can then be condensed into drinking water.

Mr Shrivastav says the whole process takes about 12 hours. Today each unit produces about 2,000 litres of drinking water.”

If defenestration is a thing, is fenestration also a thing? How come no one ever uses that in a sentence?

@JeremyMallin When you crash in through a window? Like because you're clinging to a rope dangling below a helicopter racing between skyscrapers.

I'm doing a survey about food at work. One question about breakfast is how happy I'm with the variety. I'm very happy with it - it's the same consistently :-).

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@samantha Heh. One time a cafeteria changed how they made a product and I wrote a very elaborate complaint. :)

Just watched Oppenheimer. It felt like a three hour zoom meeting at work, only getting a bit of life thanks to the labrador getting into the picture (Albert Einstein) and a big bomb in the middle of the meeting. Otherwise rambling and ramblings by old men who I don't care about. This could have been an e-mail. #films

I'm going for a little holiday trip and it makes me so uneasy it's almost funny. I hate even thinking about leaving home. I can't pack my bags. Can't make any plans for the trip. Just denying the whole thing until I really have to go.

I guess I'm going to have fun there but the transition is horrible.

@exme Sounds familiar.

How is this?

Says “autistic & neurodivergent” now

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@ashleyspencer It looks great. Very readable. I hope it reassures neurodivergent people who aren't autistic that they are welcome in your store. Congratulations on your rebrand. [heart]

So, a woman from the German rich people party said that our chancellor is unreachable and has "almost autistic traits" because (according to her) he doesn't communicate with the citizens and hasn't social contacts in the political sphere. Don't know about that. I'm not a fan of our chancellor, but wow, using "autistic traits" as an insult... And this woman candidates for the European parliament. Hope she and her party of heartless money lovers will fail hard. #actuallyautistic

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@blue Does being unreachable and bad at communicating with citizens suggest a politician is autistic? I think that level of service is pretty standard for Canadian politicians.

Giving a seminar at Armagh Observatory tomorrow! It's genuinely a bit silly that I've never been there before, after twenty years in Northern Ireland and twelve years at QUB.

I did not really practice my seminar. I threw forty slides together from a couple of other presentations. I know what I am talking about and I know not to run over time and that will do.

This is not quite Professional Academic levels though. For that I'd have to be throwing the slides together on the bus down there.

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@astronomerritt How do you feel about questions from the audience?

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@astronomerritt I didn't mind the first part - although I practiced a lot - but the second part I found impossible.

(People often asked questions that were either (a) outside the scope or (b) based on a misunderstanding of the information, and I regularly bluescreened trying to figure out how to answer "diplomatically.”)

Totally wasn’t expecting the new manufactured chew necklace samples to show up today, but yay!

This one has a lot more resistance than the first samples they made. Good for hard chewers like I wanted. :)

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@ashleyspencer Do they come with the string in or do you do them or does the buyer?

ashleyspencer, to random
@ashleyspencer@autistics.life avatar

Much better logo update! Text is balanced out and both Autistic and Neurodivergent fit. There’s not enough space for the word “and” so it will have to do.

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@ashleyspencer @Codeschubse Would the font size be okay if you remove the dots and use a “/" instead of "and" or “&”?

Otherwise it reads as "A store for autistic neurodivergent adults," which could mean "for the subset of neurodivergent adults that is autistic," which I think is the message you're trying to avoid.

I don't throw away #compactfluorescent lamps but "burn" them in my #turtle dwellings. They give off sufficient light and provide some heat as well. Currently one CFL has been consumed, have a box full of them. #ewaste #environment

Cassandra,

@dynode @ned

What does it mean to “burn” them?

Cassandra, to random
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

Sometimes I’m amazed by how slow I am now.

How much time it takes me to do so little.

I try to remember that I'm recovering from burnout, and my previous pace was unsustainable and should not be the baseline.

And it's hard to find motivation in a world so bleak.

But still.

@adelinej It is hard! But now I've come around to thinking I'm not even slow. I'm actually doing a lot of things, it's just that most of them are devalued as work under capitalism and many of them are different from allistic standards.

My partner and I bought a car together this week.

He’d kept his working for 15 years but it didn't have air conditioning, and between my sensory issues and the planet's ever hotter summers, this meant I was rarely willing to go anywhere.

I don't want to sit around alone waiting for the end.

After so many years without my own car, I can't help feeling like I've bought into Mad Max. But I want to get to places where I can help people and build community, so I hope it is at least Furiosa.

Tonight my partner, en route to the gym, dropped off (safe) food he had made.

"Nice car," I said (flirtily).
