:nkoWave: Hello and a good meowing everyone :blobcathearts: A new week has begun, enjoy and have an amazing day! ♥️🐾

CandyDumDub,

@stux 33rd week of the year, welp

dsfgs, to fediverse

Imagine if during times of high network traffic, #fediverse instances only needed to send a hash of the content, basically a #torrent file, to the viewer with a maximum of three, random I2P users who have interacted with the content?

Now those I2P users would serve the image to the user and not the instance itself.

This truely democratises fediverse.

The I2P peer-to-peer network is the best fit for this because I2P is designed to move content via #torrenting — Tor is not.

Good idea?

CandyDumDub,

@dsfgs Nope, not a good idea. Imagine all those random 3 people are offline at the same time. Chain is broken now

Just ordered a new phone (Pixel 7), and it's coming first thing in the morning.

Which De-g**gled ROM should I pick?

Please vote AND comment why.

Thanks!

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane as someone who uses Pixel 7 with GrapheneOS, the choice is obvious to me. Installed it and never looked back

CandyDumDub,

@jwestall_com @RL_Dane GrapheneOS also has them, but within a container. It's an objective truth that the GrapheneOS is number 1 when it comes to security and privacy

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane why'd I need to "handle" it? All it means is that google has no privileges on my phone. I have full control over it. Why'd you want to give google more data than they need? It shall be treated as any other application. No sensor data, no geo data; nothing at all I'd say with "optimized" battery mode that won't work all the time. Do I get notifications? Yup, with no delays

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane I mean, GrapheneOS has an app to manage default apps (updating). And just one click to install Google Play. It has the same rights as any other app. Documentation is clear on that

https://grapheneos.org/usage#sandboxed-google-play-installation

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane Ofc it's possible. Some people use it within one profile, some people like to separate everything completely. It's fine and is up to you

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane Nothing changed in that front, AOSP has it

Something I just learned how to do in #qutebrowser: have JS disabled globally but enabled for specific sites.

  • :set content.javascript.enabled false to disable JS globally
  • The keybinding tSh toggles whether JS is enabled for the current host; tSH includes all subdomains; tSu only for the current URL

So handy!

CandyDumDub,

@benjaminhollon the worst part is that some sites use JS to load content. Modern web is borderline unusable with no JS, unfortunately

CandyDumDub,

@benjaminhollon I prefer a bit more mild approach:

*$3p,script

Not as radical, but works

CandyDumDub,

@benjaminhollon it mean to block third party scripts

Just imagine having something like "Material you design" on a Linux desktop. For example, with Gnome. Adaptive colors and same style icons.

#linux #gnome #thoughts #deign

CandyDumDub,

@bragefuglseth the actual nightmare is a typical Linux system tray. Colorful, monochrome, short, narrow, wide, huge icons at the same time. Someone shall put it all in order, finally.

Welp, #RIP my #Pixel 4a 5G w/ #CalyxOS

You were a good little phone. Even with a janky camera module that I had to clean out with an air duster every few days because dust got under the lens.

Saltwater and electronics dast nicht mix, mein freunden.

#MeinFakeDeutchIstPoor

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane Pixel phones are unique ones. They are not meant to have the best score in a benchmark. They just different. In my humble opinion, GrapheneOS makes them even better. Long live Pixels!

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane As someone who uses Pixel 7, it is totally worthy. 5 years of support are guaranteed

CandyDumDub,

@RL_Dane Yeah. Conclusion: you better not try to break your phone when it's summer. Bash your phone and yell Happy New Year instead,

A little while ago I read something somewhere in replies on YT I think and it kinda made sense

Something like:

"Our parents grew up with the idea that the US was the land of chances and opportunities but our generation almost sees it more like a developing country"

Not to talk down the US but I also experienced this, I always wanted to live in the US very bad but nowadays I rather stay away..

That's worrying, I think

CandyDumDub,

@stux Personally, I think it started in 1960-ish. With the rice of ideas that "we demand rights", yet no one bears the responsibility. Also, the US globally behaves like an empire with its own style. And each empire has its end, usually a bloody end. Now it seems to be about the end phase. So, it makes perfect sense to live in geographical Europe. This is the most developed region by all means. If you don't wanna live in your own country, either you were brainwashed or everything is very bad.

:nkoWave: Hello and a good meowing everyone! :cat_hug_triangle: I'm feeling a little sick :sad_cat: Gf was also a little sick when she returned from the festival so I think she shared :flan_sick:

Nonetheless, have a most wonderful day and stay safe! ❤️ :cathug:

CandyDumDub,

@stux Being sick (common cold) at the summer is one of the most "dude, uncool" things

I just saw someone using a laptop with a circular trackpad. I’d heard of those but never seen one. Seems cool!

CandyDumDub,

@benjaminhollon Oh yeah, I have seen that too, but I got a combo. That guy was scrolling the web on an Ubuntu installation (assumedly 18.04), and circular trackpad. It happened in a metro

MX Linux 23 is based on the latest Debian 12 'Bookworm' release.

https://news.itsfoss.com/mx-linux-23-release/

CandyDumDub,

@itsfoss Nowadays Debian is very user-friendly, has a good documentation. Why would you choose not to use it then? Like, I can get what's wrong with Debian 6, for example; almost like Arch installation but odder
