#Linux people - so can flatpak applications not assess other things on your device? I read this somewhere (https://support.1password.com/connect-1password-browser-app/). Seems kind of inconvenient

@MIfoodie Ckecout Flatseal for easy administration of your flat apps. Sandboxing is standard when it comes to flatpak

Not sure on the relevance of the link tho..

We've updated the rules of our flagship server mastodon.social today. Most are the same with some clarifications, but one rule is new: Content created by others must be attributed, and use of AI must be disclosed. Profiles that only post AI-generated content will not be tolerated.

Angry84, (edited )
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@Gargron
"Mastodon social media is decentralized in such a way that no central governing party implements rules and regulations. Instead, it allows communities to self-govern."

it seems a little against what mastodon was about.

It's one thing for unique artwork, but things like posting pictures of objects to describe something will be a pain in the ...

How do we also define AI content? Untouched by a human, 10% to 90% changed by a human after generating?

What next.... Community notes?

My cat Teela is going to the vet today, she is acting very weak and hasn't eaten or drank much over the past day or two as far as I can tell.

Send your well wishes out into the universe in whichever way that you see fit. We love her and hope she can make a speedy recovery.

A picture of Teela from when we were wrapping Christmas presents last year. She's safe and content inside a wrapping paper fort
A silly picture of Teela from several years ago, she's laying down with her belly exposed and front paws folded up

@rootcompute glad to hear it's treatable and you can tell just by her eyes and look that she is a loved daughter (they aren't just pets).

Wishing her many many more years

Are there any decent options for ? Last time I checked the situation seemed pretty dire.

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@oblomov https://github.com/suno-ai/bark would be one to look into, been a few months since I used it.

Few others listed here, I know one of them did a fairly decent job with the right voice models

It's getting difficult for me to look at AI images without feeling repulsed. I can't tell if it's the developed pre-conceived notions about AI buzzword technology that make me feel this way, or if the images actually are that visually off-putting without needing the additional context

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute for me it is the buzzword and over saturation of articles around the topic combined with the usual but increasing clickbait.

When a large corporation uses them for marketing but it's lazy and unpolished it reminds me of old bosses who thought they could do everyone's job.

When it's a underdog genuinely using it to help their own art or get them started with any form of content then I feel that's an example of the perfect use.

Artist are crying but programmers embraced AI/LLMs

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute i get what you mean & think thats where it will be different for everyone/have their own views on it.

the only thing i can say is so far these "AI" (I hate using that term because to me its not true AI) are used for things that do not benefit humans.

Yes some are used for research, but chat bots and internet popularity is where the growth seems to come from.

We'll be in the homer simpsons stage of thats good, but thats bad, but thats good, but thats bad stage for awhile i think.

Is it too much to ask for a tech news site that doesn't secretly double as an ad delivery platform

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute it is unfortunately.

So 🤢 sick of seeing the 🪟 #windows will have a 🐧 #linux #sudo command posts..

  • Most Windows users will have no idea how to use it safely & when required
  • Windows will always take ideas/concepts from everywhere else

Guess I will have to wait until people find something to spam with a hashtag I don't follow 🤔

The absolute state of some gaming news sites.

Article title: "New Alan Wake II Update Is For All You Babies Out There"

The new game option: “Added option to choose between Low and Normal horror flash visual and audio intensity.”

Ah yes, people with photo-sensitivity issues should just tell their body it's being a baby. Right. Gotcha.

One thing I wont do on social media, Ask obvious questions that I could have simply searched and got my answer from the already existing Internet.

Especially if it only has so many obvious answers or a single answer.

It's either lazy or just for obvious engagement which seems overly shallow

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute just like on forums where people ask a question and wait for other members to reply.
To me it's always been a thought of, why wait overnight for a reply when you can just search and find it in a few minutes.

There are definitely some good honest questions like experience with X vs Y.

Guessing I just do not want this site to become another Twitter with repetitive content.

Teach a person to Google and they will never starve from information 😅

PEOPLE/GAMERS .... Your sexuality does not need to come into.. you are a person playing a game, that is as far as anyone cares.

If you try pushing your sexuality into other people's faces or spaces... Understand you seek attention and should find it elsewhere away from kids and others who are trying to escape the issues in the real world.

It's not awareness as we are already well aware, it's a weird fetish of forcing others to acknowledge your sexual interests and that is perversion
#gaming

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute People who use the tag / a lot of people in games. Not the games themselves.

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute Agreed with the world being a complicated place these days. Still tho sexuality should be not pushed into games where kids are playing.

Sad part is, it will only get worse.. We need a second internet that requires a license or some decent regulation.

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@rootcompute Even common sense or the ability to discuss something has gone, try having a logical discussion against anyones view in the steam forums for example on say CounterStrike..

Still, glad to see some people are able to see how bad it has become and the fact there are issues going on.

Here's one of the things I hate about #Linux: Where we are staying in Australia we have a little TV to ourselves in the basement, which appears to be of 1024x576 resolution. But KDE doesn't let me set this resolution in Wayland. And APPARENTLY I need to compile my own kernel to add a custom resolution? What?

This is annoying me in both X11 and Wayland. I KNOW for a fact the panel is 1024x576, so why can't I just type that into a GUI somewhere and have it work? Why?

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@fell does xrandr not allow you to change it? as that resolution should work / i've used it in the past (many years ago)

runnig it without arguments should list the modes and then something like xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1024x576 --rate 60 to set it`

Angry84,
@Angry84@mastodon.social avatar

@fell Fair enough with not wanting to deal with it. as for wayland specific, seems wlr-randr would be the go.

With the use of proton and wine, is actually a more backwards compatible than is.

Let that sink in for a bit...
