#Zoom CEO Eric Yuan wants #AI clones in #meetings

"Not only Zoom calls but also all other #work we’re doing every day. Chat and #messaging, #phonecalls, #emails, #whiteboard, #coding, #creative tasks, #manager tasks, #projectmanagement — all of those things together with AI help and new applications. That’s the direction. That’s part of our #Workplace [platform]. It’s our 2.0 journey."

Study suggests less conformity leads to more innovation by Complexity Science Hub

"..."When different people come together, given they have no bad intentions, new ideas emerge, which can foster innovation and contribute to economic prosperity," explains Dirk Helbing, who is an external faculty member at the Complexity Science Hub and a professor at ETH Zurich. Therefore, maintaining or even promoting socio-diversity plays a significant role. But how can this be achieved?

In a study recently published in the Journal of the Royal Society Open Science, Helbing and his colleague found evidence that socio-diversity is lower in centralized social networks, where a few key figures are connected with a lot of people..."

Meta's Workplace shuts down in 2026.

I guess making money somewhat honestly by having customers that actually pay for a service with at least some guarantees of privacy and safety is not as lucrative as having an open platform network where people are tricked into giving out all their data while they are spied upon for whatever reasons.

"A Geelong mother given the greenlight to launch legal action for pain and suffering as a result of contracting Covid in the workplace has spoken out about her next court battle."

@auscovid19

Source: https://heraldsun.com.au/leader/motheroftwo-angie-shrimpton-plans-to-sue-for-pain-and-suffering-after-contracting-covid-while-at-barwon-health/news-story/9f8f90244d9c6fa19fb2ae8eb311961b

The County Court last month ruled Ms Shrimpton had suffered a permanent serious impairment of her immune system and allowed her leave to bring proceedings for pain and suffering. She caught Covid within two days of starting work at the Opal South Valley Aged Care Home in August 2020. Eight residents of the Covid-ravaged facility in Highton died after contracting the virus, and dozens of infections were recorded among residents and staff. The Belmont resident also dealt with the trauma of bringing the virus from the Highton facility into her own home that resulted in her two children, Imogen Shrimpton-Heyne, 16, and Jay Shrimpton, 19, becoming infected. “(The court ruling) is such a big relief. I spent a long time explaining my symptoms to people and I’m honoured to be able to provide reassurance to others that they are not alone,” Ms Shrimpton said. “I am happy to take responsibility and go first to support others that are also suffering from symptoms of Covid. They need to know that they are not alone.” Alongside her irritated lungs, she battles stress incontinence — meaning she loses urine when she coughs, sneezes or laughs — and is also experiencing a persistent cough, shortness of breath, a sore throat, nasal drip, fatigue, and headaches. Ms Shrimpton said she burst into tears when her lawyer, Shine Lawyers, informed her of the court outcome and now she was preparing for another legal battle that, if she won, would pave the way for others in a similar situation.
Ms Schutze said the County Court judgment officially included the immune system as a body function in the test for serious injury in the WorkCover system and this could assist other sufferers to potentially bring claims for common law damages against allegedly negligent employers. The consensus of expert medical opinion in County Court proceedings was that Ms Shrimpton was suffering from long Covid syndrome and that it was likely her symptoms would continue indefinitely.

New essay!

"Social movement organizations are groups where people can come together to meet the needs of participants and others through reconstructing new practices, ways of relating, and decision making while also opposing domination, exploitation, and oppression. Social movement organizations can help meet people’s short-term needs while also taking actions to transform society. Social movements organizations vary in many ways. They can be in relationship to community issues, workplace issues, student issues, and beyond. At their best, social movement organizations wisely use free and egalitarian processes to meet short-term, mid-term, and long-term needs of people. However, not all social movements organizations have the kinds of organizational relations, qualities, and contents that make them ethical and effective. Free and egalitarian relations and practices require the means thereof; they will not emerge out of nowhere. The freedom of each and all has objective, universal, and necessary features as well as subjective, particular, and contingent features. The freedom of each and all needs to be continuously recreated, co-authored, and given life by people responding to unfolding conditions.

While social movements are needed to transform society outside of the official channels of business as usual, social movements can go terribly wrong. For example, some attempts at social movements replicate unfree and unequal structures and contents of the social order that they oppose! Some social movements do not meaningfully oppose unfreedom while others fail to meaningfully reconstruct new ways to meet people’s needs. Given the goal of using free and egalitarian processes to develop free and egalitarian social relations, the following are some foundational elements for social movement organizations. Participants in social movement organizations can agree to shared practices, processes, and goals without participants agreeing on a specific ideological line. With something like the following as a compass, social movements and participants in them will be better able to navigate from here to a better society. "
