The Supreme Court Case Designed To Legalize Bribery

In the case of 🔸Snyder v United States,🔸 which the Supreme Court will hear on April 15th, James E. is claiming that when a public official accepts a “” from a person or corporation who has benefited from that public official’s actions, that should not be legally considered a .

Think of it instead as a “,” like you’d leave for good service in a restaurant.🤔

Snyder is the former mayor of Portage, Indiana, who, federal prosecutors successfully argued in court, rigged a city bidding process for $1.125 million worth of new dump trucks to help out a friend who sold such trucks.

After the contract was awarded to his buddy, his friend’s company gave a “tip” to Snyder of $13,000.

Snyder is appealing his bribery conviction before the Supreme Court next month, and his main argument is that the federal of must include an explicit advance agreement, a spoken or written , to exchange money or gifts for official actions.

And that all this explicit agreement stuff must happen the official acts are taken.

If five for all of the six Republicans on the Court agree with Snyder, it will end almost all federal bribery prosecutions of elected officials and we’ll see an explosion of politicians anxious to fall all over themselves to “earn a tip” after they bow to their “friends” wishes.

(Katya Schwenk has written a great summary of the case and its implications for The Lever.)

You can simply write open . into your macOS termincal to open a Finder window (the file browser) from the directory you're current.

Works also by replacing the dot by any path to open the directory of your choice.

A that I’ve only discovered recently (and from what I see is not very used yet): through Guppe.

While full-blown groups aren’t supported yet (at least not on any ActivityPub implementations I know of), you can join/create groups on the fly by following @some-group@a.gup.pe.

If the group already exists, you’ll join it. Otherwise, it’ll be created.

Then just tag @some-group@a.gup.pe in a post that you want to submit to a group, and it’ll be broadcast to anyone who follows the Guppe account.

The source code is here.

Can't reach my Android device from Linux Mint

I am trying to set up KDE Connect between a machine running Linux Mint and my Android-device. It does not show up, and it turns out I don’t receive any response if I ping it, and I have the same issue trying to ping the machine from my Android device (from Termux). I’ve tried two different Android devices, but no luck....

Sweet! Here comes a random tidbit now that your problem is solved.

Easy screen mirroring of android to linux:
    Prereqs:

    1. Setup DHCP to always assign the same IP to the phone.
    2. Install adb and scrcpy on the Linux machine.
    3. Allow the linux machine to usb debug the phone.
    4. Allow wireless debugging in the phone settings.

    .bashrc function:
#Connect to Android and view phone screen
#Tip: If using PIN on lock screen you can unlock by entering PIN + Enter even if screen is black
    function phoneconnect(){
    sudo adb start-server
    adb tcpip 2233
    adb connect <phoneIP>:2233
    scrcpy
    }

Simply write phoneconnect in terminal when both devices are accessible on the LAN and you can remote control your phone. Some applications will blacken the screen on the computer if sensitive data is shown.

Does anyone know if there's a way to make a list on mastodon that follows hashtags? I want to keep up with all these writing tags but not on my main feed. Suggestions welcome.

Found a workaround! Woot! You can have a column that lists just a set of hashtags! Fiddly, though.

For me this works only on the desktop web UI because on the phone the "settings" button does not show. There may be ANOTHER bug in my instance server's UI glitch soc theme. Anyway, if you can get a multicolumn view in the web UI using advanced settings, try this: (see pictures)

    1. Click on a starting hashtag, like #pennedpossibilities
    2. Click on the setting button in the upper right of the hashtag column. It looks like three lines with toggle buttons.
    3. Click on +Pin that will show up. After you do that, you may have to click on the settings button to show the new UI.
    4. Toggle Include additional tags for this column.
    5. In the "Any of these" field, enter additional hashtags to follow. This provides an OR sense, specifically the post will show if it has any of these hashtags not all of them. I've entered #wordweavers and #writerscoffeeclub. Please note you MUST wait for the dropdown list to update and select from the list, That will get you a label with the hashtag and an X button. THEN type the next hashtags, etc. etm.

There you go. You have a new column of hashtags.

EDIT: The column is permanent until you close it. It would be nice if you could name it and bring it back anytime you want, but there you are. BTW: It shows up on my phone UI, too! A bonus.

+Pin button shows up after clicking settings. Click this. See instructions in post for how-to.
Toggle the Include additional tags for this column radio button. See instructions in post for how-to.
The Any of these field allows you to enter additional tags to show in the column. See instructions in post for how-to.

If you’re a web developer using Vivaldi, first thing you should do is go to Menu → Settings → Appearance and, under the Menu section, select Page from the Menu Customization dropdown then right-click on [Developer Tools] under Content and deselect Show as Subfolder.

    You’re welcome 🤓👍

Update: You have to do this manually for every item in the Menu section. That’s Audio and Video, Image, Link, Selection, and Text Field in order to have the Inspect item top-level.

Finished The Terror season 1. A grim, gripping series, with impressive art direction and wardrobes, convincing performances, and Ridley Scott as an executive producer. Recommended.

I haven't seen The Terror season 2 (yet) though. It's a separate story, and I noticed that it has received lower ratings. But I enjoyed season 1.
