Met this little guy last week by the Emu River near Burnie.
This is a Tasmanian Pademelon, a small marsupial which can now only be found here in Tasmania. There are other Pademelons in Australia and this species used to be on the mainland until humans decided to destroy them there.
This particular fella was probably young, because it was even small for a Pademelon.
Rockliff’s judgement (going to the electorate to reestablish “stable majority Goverment”) is on full display. I guess he will soon be replaced as leader by a move to the religious Right.
Interestingly, the makeup of the house will now more closely represent what democracy was intended to deliver (though still too much of a ‘party system’).
Labor and the Greens in the end have more seats together than the Liberal Party - why the hell is Labor not interested in trying to form a government? Cowards.
Tasmania: Health statistics show COVID-19 spread is far from over.
"The state's Health Department received almost 8000 notifications for COVID over the first 3 months of this year with a little less than half of these in the North and North-West regions"
Was just out for a night walk. I can't tell if my eyes are playing tricks, but I felt like I could see short flickers in the city light haze reflected off the air; kept walking, it seemed like it was happening in the streetlights too. Could there be something happening with the power grid?
Took a trip to Burnie on the north coast of Tasmania. There's a beautiful spot on the Emu River called Fern Glade Reserve, a good place for platypus spotting. Didn't see any today, but the track and river were beautiful.

No Logical Social, Environmental or Economic Argument for Native Forest Logging
" Liberal Party, that if re-elected they would release a further 40,000ha of native forest for logging, from which they plan to acquire a further 185,000 cubic metres of sawlog.
couple of shy Pacific Black #ducks have joined our resident Wood ducks this week. love the iridescent wing feathers that change colour depending on the angle of view. Main dam is still a bit muddy from the flood last month, so they have been dabbling in the cleaner, house dam. #wildoz#tasmania
Keen followers will recall that a few weeks ago I posted about the wombat gate I had just built. I finally got a wildlife camera so I can see if anyone is actually using it. And they are!
Wombat goes in and then a couple of hours later goes out. Super excited.
