Tip of the day: Mobile devices have come a long way. They’re surely more powerful than they used to be with increasing amounts of storage capacity. However, not all devices have a large amount of available space. This can pose a problem when trying to import and sync your databases. Here are some things to consider in this situation. https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20220531-shallow-sync-devonthink-to-go

Okay. Interesting. Moving files from Dropbox creates placeholder files that are empty but take up space. There's a little cloud symbol beside the files in the dropbox directories, but they refused to download. Sheesh. Luckily, the files exist online. I've logged on to the online dropbox and downloaded all my files to my hard disk in a separate directory as a backup. I'm trying bypassing the dropbox refused to sync issue by signing out of dropbox and orphaning the current directories. Signing on again, but creating new dropbox directory tree on disk that must be downloaded again from the .Hoping that this fixes the problems I'm having between platforms, at least from the Mac perspective.

The other day I have also committed an update to the sync(8) manual page, which documents that running sync three times in a row hasn't been necessary since the 80s.

It's fascinating that you still see those triple syncs all over people's shell scripts.

Since it's a small app I hosted it on a free plan hosting service.

Syncthing and other similar software are great, but sometimes you just want a simple, lightweight, and fast way to mirror things, specially if the remote and/or local machines have limited resources.

Here is my ultra minimalistic set and forget (I hope) 2-in-1 rsync based mirror script that can be used in a cron and called manually at the same time. If there is a problem with the transfer, you even get an email.

Tip of the day: When it comes to syncing #DEVONthink or #DEVONthinkToGo, people are sometimes unsure of how to set up sync locations. If you’re using an iCloud sync, there’s only one option: all databases sync to one location. But if you’re using another sync option, you may want to approach it differently. #collaboration #pkm #productivity #sync #tipoftheday https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20220608-devonthink-sync-locations

I want to hear what you folks use to sync blogs/webpages over SFTP.

So, the setup is that you have a bunch of files (HTML, CSS, etc) on your local computer, and you want to update your hosting with the latest version, having only SFTP access.

I am mounting it locally with sshfs and then using "rsync -vuz --delete --recursive <source> <destination>", but I feel like there is a better way (or better rsync options).
