"I don’t understand the #bancars hashtag [because his profession is not allowed to tell cars no]" #DefundDOTs#PBOT#pdxTraffic planner here
"Banning cars now would be like building cities in space and then banning spacesuits. We need to build places where people can actually live without cars." 🙄 uh, we already built those places and they have too many cars on them, then car apologists came & bulldozed more of it for free parking. Can we ban cars from #SchoolStreets?
Traffic planners who don't understand bicycles should not be employed by my city. #Portland is full of #15minuteNeighborhoods by bike (probably every single one by #eBikes), but you currently have to elbow your way through five-lane #stroads to reach those destinations. We're not in f'n space bro, we're in cities and #carsRuinCities, #geometryHatesCars - @bryan might learn that if he hadn't blocked me. 😂
@forpeterssake@aaroncorsi@bikepedantic Some quick bus-only lane re-allocations could really tame a lot of these #stroads very easily. These streets are the sources of crashes, injury and deaths, unsafe whether you're in a car or not.
How many people are actually driving over 100 miles per day? But anyway, we can start with the people and distances that aren't difficult to shift to other modes or smaller EVs, except for car supremacy itself, just start.
Oh no! Look at all these Old Montréal businesses not generating any profit because of the streets being closed for cars. Utterly devastating move by the city to prevent people from accessing these businesses by having nowhere to park. How dare they doom the economy like this?
@magalhini UK towns got this right in the 70s. Pedestrianised town centre, with multistorey car parks fed by an inner distribution road, and a bypass for traffic going elsewhere. Take a look at any midsized town on Google Maps. People here take it for granted. See also #Stroads. But the High Streets are still dying as Amazon provides a wider range, more convenience and lower prices. #townPlanning
