The Duomo di Siena seems like someone going through a "Tim Burton" phase decorated it
The walls are black & white stripes of marble, most of the statues look like they could break out singing Harry Belafonte any minute, & there's even a Strange Girl™ hanging around :blobfoxdarkghostspooky:
The black & white stripes are actually a nod to Siena's coat of arms.
Much of Italy still uses noticeboards, so every now and then you come across one like this, where the traces of death announcements, political campaigns, circus adverts and so on, lie exposed until the next thing covers them.
