San Jose Animal Care and Services is full, and they're calling for help from the Bay Area community to adopt or foster one of their animals.
San Jose ACS no longer has the capacity to take in healthy dogs or cats. As of Tuesday, the animal shelter has more than 900 animals, with 745 of them being kittens.

Cette semaine j'ai lu deux nouvelles de Greg Egan, de la #sf
J'ai lu d'abord "En apprenant à être moi", du recueil de nouvelles "Axiomatique". J'ai bien aimé celle ci, qui est assez courte. On y suit un personnage qui évolue dans une société où chacun a dans son cerveau un "cristal" qui apprend à faire comme le cerveau du porteur et copie sa structure, et vers 30 ans, avant que le cerveau ne se dégrade, chacun enlève son vrai cerveau et le cristal prend le relai.
Ensuite j'ai lu "des raisons d'être heureux" du recueil "Radieux". Beaucoup plus longue, j'ai aussi moins apprécié cette nouvelle (ça fini un peu "comme ça"). On y suite un personnage qui a une tumeur dans le cerveau qui le rend toujours heureux.
Je vais m'essayer à son roman "la cité des permutants" je pense.

I went once when I first moved to #PDX but I lived in SE so it was a kinda long bike ride. I moved to NE and I was hoping to go more often since it's less than a mile away now, but then Covid happened.
So STOKED that it's coming back! Me and my partner have some #3Dprinting/#laserCutting projects we want to do!
I haven't been to a #dorkbot since I lived in #SF, so I can't wait to see what people bring!

I bought in 1985. While I do most of my writing on the iPad Pro, I wrote my early novels on this machine and thought it would last forever. I wrote my first novel on an Apple ].

As usual after another #NI election which saw #Unionism not get their vote out. (Why isn't Jeff appealing to the Unionist voter?) Plus the #DUP taking more votes from a smaller shrinking pool.
Unionism decides that their attempts to fix their problems is to talk to themselves! Not getting out there & talking to the people who stayed at home! #NIpolitics
First of all Jeff, Jim, Doug, Mike and the rest - need to be honest with themselves and then the voters - Unionism isn't growing it's voting base, they don't have a positive message and the biggest problem - what if they can't form a party to compete with #sinnfein
Despite them trying to make #SF & Michelle the bogeyman - people aren't frightened of SF anymore! No matter how much Ben howls at the moon & 🚮 squeals about 200,000 voters voting for the #DUP & #TUV!
Doesn't matter how many parties there is if their voters are dying, not being replaced, their message is the same as it was 20 years ago and they can't be honest with themselves. Jim & 🚮 have hurt them - time they were seen off.
Yep - SF what goes up, must come down. Plus having no real competition could led to a situation were they think they can't be challenged eg Tories!
#Alliance is now our real opposition to #SF because #Unionism is about to start navel gazing.
The #TUV have been finally exposed as a one man band - admittedly one with a very big mouth & too much exposure for his size. Jim failed to deliver last May & now last Thursday. The TUV are done now. Time Jim called it a day!

If you happen to think about Argentinean #literature (probably never, but let's assume, you did), there are a couple of names, you might think of:
Jorge Luis Borges, Ernesto Sábato, Julio Cortázar and, just in case, you're a huge fan of #SF and #Westworld, Adolfo Bioy Casares (The Invention of Morel).
You would probably not think of Osvaldo Soriano, one of the country's most successful writers of the late XXth century, despite most of his works have been translated to English and German.
Notes: There is a shameless US-American rip-off of the film: "K-PAX" from 2001, which is not bad, but does not credit the original.
US companies are always crazy about protecting intellectual properties, as long as it's theirs and not that of others.
There is also an older (1948) SF-Story "The strange case of John Kingman" by Murray Leinster with a similar plot.
This might be a coincidence, but it is worth reading, as are other stories by Leinster, if you like classic #SF.

As a follow on to my last post, I am happy to now share access to my first bit of flash fiction, "After the Singularity". I find the short story form to be difficult, but as it turns out flash might be a good way to sketch out a concept that might mature into a novel or three!
