BILL DAVIS and his Singing Dulcimer - SMOKY MOUNTAIN MELODIES (Old Tradition, 1972). Bill was a renowned dulcimer luthier from Gatlinburg, TN, who could play too! Accompanied here on a few songs by folksinger and guitarist George Anne Egerton. #BillDavis#dulcimer#folk@vinylrecords

Musical Interlude: In keeping with the season, here's an instrumental of a familiar holiday favorite, done by a local-to-me folk band that I'll be seeing in person Saturday...
one of my favorite Billy-isms is when he is bantering between songs and says "we're going to play some bluegrass now" like he hadn't already been doing that for the prior 45min.
@LostReflector that cracks me up too, although I think Billy says it genuinely ~ the man is an encyclopedia of music, and does differentiate between #Bluegrass#OldTime#NewGrass#Country#Rock and more (his own songs don't often follow the traditional bluegrass song structure exactly but of course do contain elements of it) ~ at last count the #BillyStrings setlist catalog was over 500 songs and counting (many are covers of course) ~ he's a walking talking jukebox
Black-American musical expression during enslavement laid the foundation for blues, jazz, country, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, & popular music. Emerging from oppression, it reflected resilience & creativity, becoming anthems for civil rights movements the world over. The emotive force and cultural distinctiveness of those early songs endure, nurturing the ongoing struggle for a more just world.
